A vanity show for who? The doc began filming before the timoneys took over. I'm curious, what is it you dislike? As said previously the doc was happening before his involvement.

Check the part I bolded, you'll figure it out I think stepback3 was challenging how this documentary could be a vanity project for the new owner when the documentary was commissioned before the new owner was even on the scene. But I suspect you were actually saying that owning the team, not the documentary, was a vanity project for the new owner?

The only other thing that crossed my mind is I wonder if Lions sent a weaker squad in the Trophy in order to give leverage to this documentary so it got a glorious finish? I know it is highly unlikely as even if they had beat Lions their was no guarantee they would make the final but one does wonder? I’m still extremely suspect and disappointed about how London managed the Trophy QF, but I don’t believe they’d have basically forfeited the game to make this documentary – something they’ve had no involvement in, have a more interesting narrative.

Just watched the first episode and absolutely love it. Would give an arm and a leg for a Scorchers version.
Only thing is I wish the turnaround could be quicker so we could actually go and see these boys play (I appreciate the Scottish lads are probably still there but I’m guessing most of the imports have changed this year?)

Just seen Episode 4. British Basketball is utterly fucked if their struggling to pay someone like Fraser Malcolm a part time teachers salary to play full time. Timoney spending millions building a 6000 seat arena but seemingly reluctant to pay the best active Scottish player enough to quit being a part time PE teacher? Had no idea things were that tight still. I also wonder if Gareth's whole angry bearded Scotch viking thing is the reason guys like Tape and Durham didn't return? I can't say he comes across as particularly likeable.

Also Jonny Bunyan is an absolute dude. Just one of those guys in life who are effortlessly funny and likeable without trying.

A few more episodes in now and I’m still loving it. All feels very authentic and real.
The only real negative I have to point out is the blurry videos of the actual games. Everything else about the *look* of the show is so tops that it’s very jarring and doesn’t look pro at all - and I know we’re talking about guys who are doing multiple jobs and a team having to train elsewhere so grannies can play badminton on their court … but at least when you’re seeing that in HD, it makes me feel like I’m watching a premium product about the realities of the game. The not-yet-buffered YouTube streams really take me out of it and, I would imagine, invite ridicule from new/casual viewers.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. The Scot’s players come across really well as does the GM. The us players give an interesting insight. New owner loves himself. Jonny Bunyan a real star old owner loved himself - must come with the territory of the most recent owners

I've just spotted this in the channel guide. Recording set. 👍 If you prefer, the whole series is available on BBC iPlayer. It's very well put together. Cheers mate, duly noted. Tbh I record everything I want to watch where I can. That way I can fast forward all of the guff.

Bad boy Bob Donewald was great, properly passionate about the game. He even went on the Leopards forum to have his say. Sadly some refs would wind him up just so they could T him.
Tony Garbelotto, Nick Nurse and Fab could blister the paint off walls too.

Gladiators being battered by London. I'm glad I'm not in their changing room at half time

Timoney comes across as a bit of a tit.
Looks like he has no idea how sports work, 'there's a shiny bus, go and win every game' quoting 'marginal gains' like he's just invented the wheel. Lol.
The rest of the team seem like lovely lads, especially Bunyan.

watched and enjoyed episode 2 now - keep having to rewind and watch bits again when I spot mates in the coverage. be interesting to see if in a future episode they mention the other job JB had at start of this, or maybe a basketball related job not seen as documentary friendly as a delivery driver one

Watched the whole series now. Really enjoyed it, especially the coverage of the Trophy Final. Actually thought the new owners came across well- loved the unveiling of the "Sword".

watched episodes 3 and 4 just there still think this is a great program and a wee bit more honest than some similar ones in football recently - feels rawer and you are in there, not distant watching if that makes sense episode 3 summary - scary Gareth! I tend to sit on opposite side of the court, so dont hear his game day voice. episode 4 summary - any regrets Patrick? A great summary with his ivory coast world cup, but a search there doesn't show Tape signed up yet with a european league bigger than British Basketball League. Hope its just not reported and he is sorted - was interesting to see how early before end of season Glads were talking to say they wanted him to do a longer contract.

Patrick played in the World Cup for Cote d'Ivoire. I thought I had read he had signed for a club in Finland, BC Nokia. basketball.eurobasket.com/team/BC-Nokia/1640Does anyone know where David Sloan ended up?

If you rate a player it makes sense to sign them up sooner rather than let other coaches beat you to it. Also, you may be able to offer a lower salary by dangling a contract extension before they realise their real value. Tape was wise to resist because he could see that better offers might come his way.

Alittle late but I just finished the documentary series now. Thought it was good and it was a great insight the ins and outs of a BBL club.
I'm glad they went for the Gladiators if I'm honest since they are a team that was working towards their new arena and had a successful final.
I do think it was a little rushed in places and jumped forward quite a bit and would have liked to see it go a little longer over the course of a season. But overall I did enjoy it.
I dont know if this will have done anything for British Basketball or Glads. I hope it has especially with their new arena. If they bring out a season 2 I can see it being a big change now the team has some new faces and a new home.

I'm still to start watching this, but will do so in the next few weeks. But I was a little disappointed to learn that it was the BBC, BBC Scotland to be precise, that approached Glasgow Rocks/Caledonia Gladiators with a proposal to make this documentary rather than Rocks/Gladiators or the BBL approaching the BBC. Why does it matter? Because I had hoped that if it were Rocks/Gladiators or the BBL that had approached the BBC we could have seen this 'Ballers' docuseries becoming an ongoing thing, with each new series documenting the story of another BBL team. But as it stands that's very unlikely. It's possible we might get a second series following the Caledonia Gladiators again though. On a related note, maybe we could also start a campaign for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to take 777 Partners place and invest in the BBL. That would have all kinds of benefits.
