There is no Rocks, have people forgot they changed the name? The Rocks ceased to exist after Timoney's takeover, they are Caledonia Gladiators Next you’ll be saying that Chester aren’t the Jets any more….. You guys are still the Planters too?

Good first run-out for Eagles against a useful Derby team. Difficult to draw conclusions from a single game, but unsurprisingly the Newcastle guards look a real handful and JWH is clearly relishing his new surroundings. Neither of the BBL-rookie Americans played for Eagles - both nursing minor injuries.
The most outstanding thing about the game was the turnout - difficult to know a precise figure, but the half-court set-up was absolutely rammed so there must have been at least 1000 there for a first friendly on a hot sunny afternoon which bodes well. And good to see Fab, Tosan and Drew Lasker there and embracing fans so readily.

Rocks beaten by eagles. According to Dave Forrester rocks were better when the known quantities were playing. Eagles are looking good

Eagles looked great, Jordan Johnson brilliant again and JWH looks to be getting back to his best. Worryingly Darius is injured (foot in a boot can't see him back soon) and Tahj Green was injured but didn't seem too bad as was jumping around celebrating. It's only preseason but can't say I was particularly impressed with Glads (yet) they've gone for a noticeably big roster but didn't see much athleticism/dynamism from them tonight, especially their two new big guys and the two new guards.

Thanks for the report. After that result I am excited for the pre season although hearing about the injuries does already have me concerned and should confirm to Stetuel what I been saying which is he is going to need reinforcements for the season ahead. I hope Darius gets back to playing soon as is able to lead us into Europe. I would hate to see such an honoured player missing out being able to play for us on the Euro Stage cause of injury. I felt sorry for him when he lost on on Commonwealth Games selection in 2018 due to injury problems.

surely the fact that they played well with 7 players (and whitfield didn’t play much) means that they don’t need re-enforcements, not that they do.

Maybe they played well today but if we have other injuries or against other teams we might not be so lucky. If after pre season we are already experiencing injuries that is not a good sign considering the season hasn't even started.

A good 91-82 win for Eagles over Caledonia in a meaningful friendly, especially without both Green and Defoe (and Scott Soencer, who has been injured since arrival). But it was a pre-season game and it’s very early days, so nobody should be getting carried away.
Haven’t seen the stats but Eagles spread the scoring around pretty well. I’ve always been a JWH fan and have seen nothing to change my mind - he looks right back in the groove. And the three small guards are clearly going to be a handful for anyone, defensively as much as anything else (Jovicic, the new Serbian PG, was pressured pretty continuously). Early days for Caledonia’s new arrivals although I was very impressed with Palyza who shoots threes for fun and has good size. Early thoughts are that they are big but maybe not as athletic as some BBL teams - possibly more suited to their European opposition than to the BBL. Time will tell.
Once again, a good crowd for a pre-season game. Now to real business later in the week……

JWH was always a favourite Riders player for me. 100% commitment, and very skilful. Great defender but also able to attack the basket and score threes. Regained us the ball once we'd lost it so many times owing to perseverance and being an absolute pest to the opposition. Think he'll be a fan favourite with Eagles fans very quickly.
