Wait, so the BBL - which is 45.5% owned by 777 Partners and 54.5% by the 10 member teams (including London Lions who are themselves owned 100% by 777 Partners and both the Giants and Patriots who are operated by the league - and therefore in part by 777) are investigating 777's ownership of solely the Lions? I'm sure there could be a nugget of truth in there somewhere but the way that tweet is worded doesn't add up to me. * Unless of course the results of the investigation turn out to be: "Everything's 100% above board and no questions asked, please" - in which case it all adds up perfectly

The entire 777 involvement was a hackneyed farce considering the Kuwaiti deal was for £10m (up from 777 £7m) and was days/weeks from completion as at May 2021 and at the last minute the deal was scuppered after 2 years of negotiations and due diligence. 777 show up from nowhere and the Kuwaitis are booted out. Why? There is a lot that needs to be investigated frankly and potentially should the truth out, the entire League should be wound up and relaunched. You would however have to accept that Giants, Patriots and Lions would be reduced to dust overnight, but in the interests of integrity, the BBL at this moment is far from a squeaky clean operation and importantly, neither a fair one.

So it would appear that there’s no investigation and that 777 have a fantastic relationship with the league. Which may well be true. Putting aside the rumours, I suspect the key to that fantastic relationship will be that all sums due to be invested by them in the BBL have been duly paid. The 777 statement would appear to make clear that this is the case.

league directors also disagree with the hodge story - given the very clear duties of company directors, this statement holds more weitght imho than the one on the Lions page, but combined they are still interesting. www.bbl.org.uk/british-basketball-league-statement/

Translation: “777 are not aware of any investigation - and if the other owners *are* conducting one, they better remember who’s been footing the bill around here.”
