Simply awful news - I only met him a couple of times but it was clear from those that his physical, aggressive on-court image was a million miles away from the laid-back and friendly chap he was off the court. My sympathies to his family.

Terribly sad news Donovan Marshall-Johnson Obituary Donovan Marcelous Marshall-Johnson, 31, Louisville and formerly of Shelbyville, died tragically in the early morning hours on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 in a traffic accident in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the son of Gwenella C. Marshall of Shelbyville and Don F. Johnson of Louisville. He was a 2010 graduate of Shelby County High School and a 2014 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan University with a bachelor's in sports management. Donovan was a semi-professional basketball player in the UdeC in Basketball Champions League Americas. He had played professionally in Argentina, Chile, United Kingdom, France, Greece, Paraguay and the United States. He was scheduled to play with Panionios Team in Greece in the 2023-2024 season. Basketball was his life. His dream to play professionally began in high school. In applying for the NBA draft, he wrote, "hello coaches, my name is Donovan Marshall, and I want to become the best version of myself athletically and academically. I am a great leader and team player, and even though I am confident in my skills and abilities, I strive to continuously learn and develop. I am also very coachable and take criticism very well. I look forward to working with you." While eligible for the NBA Draft in 2014, he was never drafted, but realized his dream through playing semi-professionally. On those rare occasions when he was off the basketball court, Donovan enjoyed rap music and spending time with his family. He was very family oriented. He was Methodist by faith. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his sister, Candace Marshall of Shelbyville; two brothers, John Michael Marshall of Los Angeles, CA and Donavis Duncan of Louisville; his maternal grandmother, Mary Marshall of Shelbyville; his paternal grandfather, John J. Johnson of Louisville and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Shelby Christian Church. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. The eulogy will be delivered by Rev. Norris Beckley, Sr. and Devin West will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Webb Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.webbfuneralhome.com.
