Looked like a bit of a blowout.. didn't look like a full strength squad either. I wonder where Kiki is as she was named to the training camp squad.

Good opening win for GB.
This is what Fagbenle said to the BBC before the tournament started,
"I know how much more we could do if we had the backing, support and funding," "You just watch other teams around the world who are successful and they have funding, they have structure, they have backing and the ability to train multiple times a year. If we had more of that, we could pose a big threat in the future."
The GB players are excellent. They honestly look like a WNBA team. I believe she is right. This team has the potential to be much better. Also these players could be better if they were playing at a higher level on a regular basis. I remember Krumesh Patel making the argument recently for a more professional WBBL, with funding and talent concentrated in fewer but better teams. GB improved as the game went on. Now I am feeling pretty confident GB will play 5 games, so my £20 GB Basketball TV fee is now feeling like money well spent.

EuroBasket Women results
Thursday: GB 76 - Slovenia 71 Friday: France 63 - GB 57 Sunday: Germany 62 - GB 61
Great Britain are good but they do rely a lot on 4 players out of a squad of 12, and after 3 games in 4 days they look tired. I think they could have used their squad a bit more against France, who they were unlikely to beat, and focus on beating Germany. I don’t know if the GB squad lacks depth but they play like they do. Now they face Serbia on Tuesday for a place in the semi finals. Serbia are ranked 4th in Europe. The winner of that game will face Belgium in the quarter finals. Belgium are ranked 3rd in Europe. GB have nothing to lose but it looks like Tuesday will be their last game.

If GB can beat Serbia but then lose to Belgium, they enter into playoffs for the last European place in the 2024 Olympic Games basketball tournament in Paris.
GB will be disappointed to have lost to low ranked Germany, but it is worth noting that the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup is in Berlin so no doubt Germany are sparing no expense in getting the team ready for that.
GB women have a chance of qualifying for Paris 2024 and Berlin 2026. But it is worth noting that Serbia thrashed them last time they met. GB will have to raise their game a lot to beat Serbia.

Yeah fair assesment, narrow loss to Germany was very disappointing. Perhaps some "tactical squad rotation" against France would have seen them be able to overcome the Germans and get a more favourable drawer.

It was disappointing and I don’t get it because every player that has come on has done really well, so why play your best 5 for 30 minutes each against France when your other 2 games are must wins? And why have two players not even played? They must be injured. Do these games have a press conference afterwards because I feel really in the dark?

There's not even really any slightly more comprehensive match reports around with quotes from coach, players etc that I've seen.

I don't think many would have foreseen how the other group would turn out and would have been thinking finishing 2nd or 3rd would still have a great chance of proceeding in the 1st knockout game. However Hungary who are ranked lower than us beat much higher ranked Serbia. Think most would have expected Serbia to top that group and after their final game GB will have been expecting to see one of the other 3 in that group end up as their opponents.

Not much was revealed except Hannah Robb didn’t get many minutes because she struggled with height. I actually thought she did alright.

Serbia 66 - Great Britain 60. This is the end of the tournament for GB, and it also means they won’t be at France 2024 Olympic Games.

GB Women and the WBBL should get involved in this www.gov.uk/government/news/new-womens-sport-investment-scheme-kicks-off-first-round-with-seven-sports-representedBritish Basketball and Basketball England are always complaining about lack of funding, but they didn't apply for this. Background: The application process for the Women’s Sport Investment Accelerator is open to rightsholders of any UK-based women’s sports leagues, teams, competitions or events aiming to attract investment and boost their growth. The scheme is also being made available at no cost to taxpayers, with all speakers and mentors providing their time and expertise on a pro bono basis and the scheme being delivered through DBT’s collaboration with Deloitte, who are providing event space and facilitating several of the scheme sessions.

Thanks for sharing the link. GB were not quite good enough today. But a great job by GB basketball and Manchester putting on a really good event. Nice big crowd, and the "Her World Her Rules" fans were fantastic, supporting the team from start to finish.

Thanks again for sharing the link. There were 3 outstanding players against Sweden. Winterburn, Fagbenle and Wilkinson. Winterburn isn't playing in this game so it's not going to be easy. In total GB has about 7 international standard players from what I saw in EuroBasket women. They all play for London Lions or overseas.
