Sam Dekker underwent surgery on his ankle and will not be available for the Finals this Sunday… Every cloud as they say… Disappointing that the O2 crowd, and the television audience of the league’s showcase event, won’t get to see the league’s highest profile player. And obviously disappointing for any London fan. But the fact London have just given him a 3 year contract extension shows they’ve made a long term investment in him, so I’d already accepted it was unlikely we’d see him rushed back for the final.

We watched the league’s highest profile player in the cup final in January,
I do wish Sam a speedy recovery starting next Monday.

Looking forward to another crack at London.
We will be in the absolute minority at the 02 so will be channeling spirit of the famous k keegan speech.
Come on you riders

Come on you riders Unfortunately that analogy reminds me that they lost. We're definitely underdogs but how sweet would it be if Riders somehow overturned the odds. We'll have to find a way to make 3 pointers against their ridiculously good perimeter defence. No shame if we lose but glorious if we win.

So how many of us are making the trip to the smoke to watch the showcase final.

Less than ideal game day preparation for both Riders teams.
Their hotel, The Double tree by Hilton London ExCel, Had a fire alarm go off at 01.30 am this morning, with an evacuation at 02.45 am. Everyone was out on the street until 03.45 am. Two fire crews in attendance.

Most Hilton Group hotels are franchise operations, I wonder who actually owns that site, could it be a company owned &/or controlled by 777?
Just to add a conspiracy theory to the situation :-)

I stayed in Hampton by Hilton London Park Royal when I visited London, it was alright.
It was a choice between either that one or a hotel in Canary Wharf.

Hoping the men fare better than the women. Control the ball and stay as calm as possible to make good shots.

Well it was a good battle from Riders but in the end London maintained control and were ready to put them to bed come crunch time.
Leicester put up a good fight and I think if they had made their free throws then I reckon they could have had this one. 21/37 at the Free throw line and 5/24 3 pointers made could have made a huge difference to this game and showed alot of missed opportunities. Especially when I felt London were in foul trouble early on.
As for Lions though I felt that European experience must have really benefitted them here as playing in those European arenas probably made them better conditioned to this stage. And with this being a home final it was certainly the one they should have wanted to win the most.
And whilst this has been a good season for Lions I have a feeling this could only be the beginning for their ambitions. As next season they will have a lot to live up to.
Question is will anyone be able to somehow raise their standards to match them? I suppose this off seasons every other team will be trying to figure that out and who knows. Maybe their could be some surprises yet to come as we now enter the off season.
On another note I would finally like to wish Nelson Henry and as of today Rahmon Fletcher good luck with their retirements and offer thanks for everything they have done for the British Basketball League.

Felt £ions never needed to move out of first gear until they needed to and refs as usual were bloody awful

Refs were collectively poor for both teams.
It’s pretty much where we are compared to Lions; 8 points with a Dekker less team, more towards 12-15 when he’s playing

Spot on re: the free throws. I couldn't believe how quickly London got into team foul trouble in just about every quarter. Fortunately Leicester couldn't capitalise on the number free throw opportunities they were being given (which is very unlike them). If they had shot them like they normally would have I think this game would have been very, very close, and even possibly have had a different result. Another great day at the O2, I hope everyone who attended enjoyed it as much as I did.
