When did he actually last coach Team GB competativly? I think this news has been a long time coming. He was on the bench at EuroBasket, and as far as I'm aware the word "recruiting" isn't quite right, the actual term is "looking for a volunteer" I wonder if Fab would do it? Depends if he can commit to flying across for international windows during the NBA season (I suspect not) |

Has Fab survived the Raptors cull ? No idea although if he stays in the NBA then you'd just end up with the exact same situation as what you had with Reinking. For Fab or anyone it could be an option for a coach who wants to enhance their coaching CV or represent theirs or a national team in Basketball. However as we have all said numerous times since London 2012 what is the future the GB Basketball team right now? The past couple of years we have had a few odd wins in against other european countries B or C team in qualifiers. Then ended up getting to the big Eurobasket stage and just blown to pieces by the A teams of our European competitors. If like Nat and Fab or if your already well established as a coach in a great organisation it would be hard for you to want to sacrifice or dedicate time to a programme without a vision at the moment. And yes I know that sounds harsh when you put it that way but accurate. I agree with Nates departure as being the Head coach as you cannot be coach of a team and then work from home all the time and have someone else holding fort 75% of the time. And I'm amazed that was not figured out earlier. Although as an Eagles fan even though its great to see Stetuel in charge and at least there on the sides. After last season I think some Eagles fans would prefer him to walk away from GB and concentrate on rebuilding us. |
