Agreed on the injuries point.
Record books do tell you which was the last team standing.
They also tell you the seeding for the playoffs via the final league table.

Very true. And that's why I'd put play offs above the cup and trophy. But not the league for me, for now anyway. I can understand others thinking different, but if I had the choice for Riders I'd take the league.
I really hope that in the future we can grow the league and add teams so we get to a point where making the play offs is an achievement and the series within them leave you in no doubt who the best team are.
If you had a 16 team 30 game season with a best of series for each play off round the league really does become just a qualification for the play offs and a seeding tournament.
Something like that may never happen but we can live in hope.

Be interesting to see the correlation between perception of winning the league and being a Riders fan.

Yeah you could well be right. Although I've always thought it and we were trash for years (and years and years and years).
Would definitely shift your priorities if you didn't have a chance to win the league. And I guess that's one positive of the way it is I suppose, each teams fans can prioritise whatever they want and what is more achievable. Although I still think I'd rather have one clear cut competition that is more important and more valued by all.

Not sure it would shift your priorities if you didn't have a chance. Would suggest it depends if you ever saw it as a priority in the first place.
Unfortunately most basketball fans come to the sport from football where the league position is the be all and end all.

You're certainly right about most fans coming from British sports to basketball. But I'm from a basketball family, brought up on basketball, none of my family really like any other sport. I still think the league normally shows who is best, because of our current format.

That's a 1 on that correlation then. Small sample size though.

I think one thing we can agree with about the BBL that keeps it interesting is at least all 4 competitions are different even if some people aren't as big fan of the new Cup Format.
At one point the big criticism was the Cup and Trophy being to similar but now that one is a knockout and the other a group format it's at least different. Although I think the name should be the other way round as the Cup was meant to be similar to football FA Cup but I feel the Trophy mimics this more.
I remember in my first season as a fab where Eagles made the sweep in 2011/12 the Trophy Final was 2 legs home and away. Plus both the Cup and Playoff Final player in Birmingham. Now they are all spread around geographically it's better. And as an Eagles fan 2 years ago going to watch the Trophy Final in Glasgow was ideal for travel.

they are all equally important - and if they were not then why would I as a fan bother to pay the same ticket price (and be expected to) for each and why would a player take the same risks with his body every time he steps on court if some of them ain't important to the club or fans or league.
Back in the day, hockey in the UK had four comps - as Ayr did the grand slam of them. Now awaydays they seem to have settled on three in a normal season. If you are going to say the league is just a placing comp for the playoffs and it is the real championship, then I think you need the cup and trophy to keep some interest going if all those league games are just a placing event before the real deal starts. However as I started, I don't really believe that as I believe all are of equal importance.
PS someone mentioned the Trophy final always looks empty - please don't confuse the fact its an indoor athletics arena and the two ends are big empty cavernous spaces with it actually being empty. Fairly sure smallest crowd at the ones I have been at was still over 5K and I thought one year it pushed nearer the 8k level. Last one with a crowd was really low as we were already starting to shut down as a country and so it is not a reflection of the prior years.

I go to watch basketball and support my team. I want them to win, but I agree that I don't perceive the value of certain games to be worth less than others. What I do perceive to be different is the status associated with the win.
If my team placed first in the league rankings and were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs, I'd feel like the season was a waste. All the hard work and consistency was for nothing when it really mattered.
You're only as good as your last game.
