well it did say something - and unless they reword it, it was said inaccurately! 2nd oldest club in UK basketball club - well there are two clubs in Edinburgh that are older than them If you're talking Kings as one of them then they were formed 5 years after the Raiders who were formed in 1983. Boroughmuir are the only one that beats them, founded in 1961 Pleasance are the other one - older than Boroughmuir

We have 2 universities and 2 bucks teams. Raiders are an bbl franchise now that have been around since 1983. The patriots are the laughing stock of British basketball. As with the 2nd oldest comment doesn’t it state in the country? Scotland is a separate country if they said country I would give you that - but they didn't, they said in the UK anyway, if there is a playing level not being met in an area (Plymouth or any other part of the UK) and there is someone able to do something to help meet that - good luck to them and hopefully it grows the sport

Can someone remind me why the Patriots owners couldn't acquire the Raiders branding but these newcomers have been able to?
Am I right in saying that at the time the asking price was prohibitively too high for Patriots owners, but it's since been offered for significantly less and that's how the newcomers have acquired it?

I heard the business was in significant amounts of debt and the only way they'd sell the "franchise" as a going concern was with the debts attached.

Scotland is a separate country Patriots are only a laughing stock amongst a small band of people within Plymouth who want to see them fail. No one else in the country really even notices the difference, other than the name change. A below average team who have some decent cheerleaders, a daft annoying mascot, get a decent crowd and play in a theatre with scruffy looking baskets.

No one else notices 5 40 point losses in 2023?
Yeah im wrong with the country!!
They couldnt acquire it because they didnt want to pay for it. After liquidation it was cheaper but you wouldn't rebrand then

And then they went bankrupt and everything (including the branding) was sold off for parts on the cheap? Is that right?

This is great news. It’s also great to see it actually in the news.
Plymouth Marjon University team plays in BUCS Men’s Western T1. The same division as Cardiff Met, Bath, Cardiff, Solent 2 and UWE 2. They also play as Plymouth Marjon Patriots in NBL D3 South West.
There is a gap to be filled in Plymouth between the BBL and BUCS/NBL D3 level. They will need a venue.

Sounds promising and realistic. I wonder if they'll look to do a pre season match against the Patriots? I'd be intrested to see which side the old school Plymouth fans support on that one.

Its interesting to look at the social media reactions.
Pats re-signing antonio williams had less likes and comments thsn raiders announcing they'll play at the life centre.
Obviously likes font turn into pounds but if raiders reclaimed just 10% of pats fans it could be catastrophic for them

Some fans might go to watch both. I used to go to watch Brighton Bears and Worthing Thunder, it was great as it meant there was a game nearly every week, sometimes 2 games. If there was a clash I'd choose which game looked more apetising/important and decide which to go to.

Interesting to see since raiders announced the new venue the lead sponsor for pats has pulled the plug stating they never wanted to do more than 2 years, but in the same breath that they had sponsored for 25 years. Theres a rumour that the league are annoyed that raiders were able to land a venue that pats were told they were not allowed. Now im under no illusions that what raiders want and pats want from a venue are worlds apart but it does make me think that perhaps well see the league take full control of Plymouth like Manchester

Head coach is in, former player and no stranger to d3. Couldn't have expected a bigger signing realistically. Nice to get ball rolling

Yes i know the money commitment will be less but from what I've been told its still significant
