Raiders are not patriots, ones bbl, the other is leagueless. I reckon it’s a d3 team which would be great having 2 bbl sides in Plymouth

Are you saying the Plymouth Raiders might re-join the BBL, along side the Plymouth City Patriots? Or are you saying it would be great having 2 basketball teams (one BBL, one ex-BBL) in Plymouth?

I love the idea of two Plymouth sides in the BBL
Riders will rack up 100 consecutive victories in no time……

Seen the press release via BBL Fix and it's a load of meaningless guff.

Wow, what a long press release to basically say nothing. Basically Plymouth Raiders are coming back, but they can’t say when, where or how. My personal guess is NBL Div3 next season, not that anything anywhere says that. A complete non-event of an announcement in my opinion.

Personally great to even see the raiders back in action. Obviously London not being able to come close to sustaining two BBL franchises see Plymouth have zero chance. Think either both teams split current fans and have 2 small fan bases. Or raiders never recapture their fans, or…. Everyone switches back to raiders eventually leaving patriots with a little fan base. I’d personally love to see the raiders back in the BBL even at the expense of the patriots

Whilst I would welcome another Plymouth team or let's be honest any new franchise to the league. I find it hard to see this being a 2nd BBL team unless the have it as a feeder team for the Patriots or play in a lower division. Although right now with 777 around we are living in an age where it feels like anything can happen so who knows.

They could share the pavilions or maybe they could afford to build and share a new basketball arena which resembles the pavilions. A lot of the BBL venues are shared with another sports team. Usually a netball team, but why not another basketball team?

Boroughmuir are the only one that beats them, founded in 1961

What's in a name anyway? I don't understand the fascination. The Plymouth BBL franchise still exists, it's not like they've moved cities or folded. Their struggling and need support. All this is going to do is divide the already small fanbase, increase competition for sponsors, exasperate existing venue issues etc. People are so petty and small minded. I assume Plymouth Uni already has a BUCS team so why is their any need for a (seemingly?) independent NBL team squeezed in the middle.

We have 2 universities and 2 bucks teams. Raiders are an bbl franchise now that have been around since 1983. The patriots are the laughing stock of British basketball.
As with the 2nd oldest comment doesn’t it state in the country? Scotland is a separate country

The question for me is who is behind the relaunch? What resources do they have?

The question for me is who is behind the relaunch? What resources do they have? Plymouth have never had much money, nor do they have a venue. Unless there's some unknown Devonian Steve Timoney coming out of the woodwork nothing and nobody is my bet. Let's say their is wealthy backer why didn't they stop Raiders folding the first time? Why don't they take over bankrupt Pat's and change the name back?

Other than that it's just rinse and repeat for the entirety of Raiders BBL history, rented venue, small band of loyal fans, mid tier team and ultimately various owners struggling to keep the lights on.
