Sounds exciting although no mention that this arena is going to see the return of a potential BBL or basketball franchise to the city of Leeds though.
And if they did bring one in it sounds like the team would play second fiddle to the Netball squad as it seems like that is who it was built with in mind.
I dont really know much about British Netball i will say and haven't been to a proffessional game. I did try to watch bits of matches on iplauer when flicking between sports during the Commonwealth games last year though.
It would be great though if from this Leeds Force were to somehow be resurrected back into the BBL. We can all agree one thing the BBL lacks is franchises.

Yes it would be built primarily for netball and wheelchair rugby because Leeds Rhinos have Superleague teams in both of those sports. But it does mention basketball a few times in the article. The BBL needs to start talking to Matt Newby about getting Leeds Force resurrected. In fact I think the BBL and Basketball England should get involved from the start to make sure whatever is built is suitable for a BBL team. Leeds should be a target city for the BBL. They would be natural rivals for Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. A lack of a suitable venue has been a major obstacle to a successful basketball franchise in Leeds.

I will rephrase I know it mentions basketball and the fact they are taking some inspiration from the Sheffield Sharks new building of an arena. But no mention that the arena is looking to house a team of its own in either the BBL or NBL league. I suppose a joint project would be quite exciting for the city of Leeds or possibly to many tenants to home. Although I'm surprised they are going to Sheffield and haven't thought about coming up to Newcastle instead since the Eagles already have a successful arena already built. And it is only a 90 minute drive from Leeds.

And it is only a 90 minute drive from Leeds. I’m surprised they’re not basing it on the NBPC as that’s what they currently use a lot for wheelchair rugby and it’s a successful venue for netball. I expect it’s just a short article and they’re in the early stages so they just mentioned Sheffield but they’re probably looking at a few places.

This is encouraging
"But as part of their long-term strategy, the Rhinos want to lay down roots in the city with the construction of community arena with a capacity of 2,500 to 3,000 people.
To do that, they know they need to embrace other sports, which they are happy to do."
He is saying they need to embrace other sports. The most obvious other sport is basketball.

I would think better to get the facilities in place first, then the team. No point getting the team in place without a suitable venue. So you never know what may come down the pipe with this!

Yeah, it’s not like it’s even possible to build a netball and wheelchair rugby arena that wouldn’t also be suitable for basketball. They don’t need input from Basketball England.
