Hi everyone Happy Easter Monday.
After watching a few games recently and seeing the highlight reels like top 10 plays. I thought I would ask this burning question.
What shot excites you more as a fan? I know both are exciting for getting a crowd going and pumped up. However if you had to choose which one excites you more.
Are you a fan of the emphatic 3 point shot like Steph Curry? Or are you more of a charge to then basket and showing a display of dominance like LeBron James?

Seems I'm the only one so far to go for dunks! I think the context is important though. If you're down 2 in the final seconds and someone gets a 3 or a 3 point play, obviously that's going to be amazing. But generally throughout a game, if there is a superb high flying dunk then that's going to be one of the highlights you remember, whereas 3 pointers and And-1 plays are happening all the time and are all pretty much the same.
In fact one of the things I enjoy most of all at the end of a close game on the final possession, is to see someone get a clean block on what would have been the game winning shot. That's better than either type of scoring when it's to save a game.

I chose 3 point play because what I like the most is a play with lots of movement with the ball going through everyone’s hands, maybe going inside and back out, then to the SG, creating an overlap so the SG can get a clean unmarked 3-pointer.
We all like a dunk but usually it’s from an interception or steal and only involves one or two players.

dunk
who truly gets out their seat in the 6th and 12th minute of the game cause someone scored a 3? The bench thats it. who though gets out their seat in the 6th and 12th minute when someone throws down a big dunk and gets the crowd going? a lot more than the bench
plus sticking with british basketball, just about anybody in a BBL squad can score a three, the dunk is less frequent and fewer in the game can deliver it

Also I'd like to add the alley-oop into the discussion - even more fun to watch!
here's an interesting question - which NBA player, past or present would you say offers the overall best combination of dunking and 3 point shooting? So for example you can't say Curry because he can barely dunk. You can't say Shaq because he can't shoot 3s. Who offers the best of both overall? Maybe Leonard? MJ, though he wasn't a great 3 point hitter simply because his era didn't use it that much. Maybe Kobe? Ray Allen? Vince Carter?

Afew weeks ago I jumped out my seat when Justin Gordon hit that emphatic dunk against Cheshire on Retro night. And on Friday I did the same thing against the Sharks when David Cohn hit a crucial 3 pointer as well. So both I feel have an impact and get people going. Although when I look at the BBL plays of the weeks I feel they do tend to focus mostly on dunks a lot of the time.

The man with a world famous dunking picture who shoots a very high percentage from 3, you can say his name Sam dont worry, the goatness is already known, its Lebron

I never thought LeBron was that great a 3 point hitter? He should probably be on the short list but is he the best ever 'overall' (call it 2 way) player in this respect?

Surely the most exciting and rarest shot is the combined ally-oop dunk ? Despite his inconsistencies, Justin Gordon is always worth watching for unusual spectacular shots , like rebounding and dunking his own 3 point attempt last week.

Give me the Duncan/Manu/Parker Spurs overpassing on an offence to get a wide open look over both of them. It was honestly the closest thing to a symphony I've seen in sports.
Edit - actually honourable mention to Boris Diaw, who was that good he could pass through the port of dover without showing a passport.

Young Yorick Williams had some incredible dunks and became a knock down 3 pt shooter...

It's a lot about the Spurs in general, not just TP. Very interesting. I agree that watching a well oiled machine go to work like that is great, although you could say the same about the Stockton/Malone Jazz but I always found them quite boring! It is amazing they didn't win a championship in all those years together though, they were so efficient.

Going back to the Brighton days I'd nominate Jerry Williams in this category but there must have been loads of guys over the years. A player most people wouldn't know but for me was memorable for his dunking was Lavoris Jerry, who played in Worthing around 2003. Best dunker I've seen in the UK. Pretty sure he could shoot too, he was the total package.

Well the results are in and it looks like most of us prefer 3 point emphatic plays over slam dunks. Thanks for voting guys this has been one interesting discussion to say the least.

I don’t like the BBL best plays videos. They’re mostly dunks from a quick transition against no defence. Are those really the best plays? Those video’s don’t do the BBL any favours.
