amazing that people can be blasé about this.
There’s nothing positive about taking unsustainable risks with other peoples money.
And covid bounceback loans and sport england money is our (the taxpayers) money.
Guildford Heat did the pre pack trick 15 years ago. It was a pretty rotten arrangement then (creditors getting stuffed). Nothings changed now.

None of this news fills me with optimism. All feels horribly like deja vu.

I’m optimistic. An historic basketball club in a growing professional league, in a major international city, a fantastic arena, a decent squad, and debt free.

He essentially slags off the rest of the league for the way they've operated in the past, whilst conveniently forgetting his position is made so much easier by their access to cash. Manchester is what happens when spending outweighs revenue. Giants/Jamie Edwards pissed away TAX PAYERS MONEY on better players to massage his ego. The sensible BBL clubs (Cheshire, Leicester, Sheffield, Newcastle etc.) spend what they can and are lambasted for being small time thinkers. Hopefully this is a reality check for teams, and the vast majority carry on acting like proper businesses.

It was a pretty rotten arrangement then (creditors getting stuffed). Nothings changed now. My point was there's a difference between taking a calculated risk and a unsustainable risk. Personally, I think calculated risks are required to move the BBL and it's teams forward. So if the BBL were to bring penalties for failures of a result of risk taking (as suggested) it would need to be done very carefully so as not to stop anyone from ever taking any risks. I didn't say the suggestion was a bad one, just that it was a difficult one to introduce.

Hopefully this is a reality check for teams, and the vast majority carry on acting like proper businesses. Is Manchester's spend really that out of kilter with the other teams aiming for finishing 2nd to 6th? As was pointed out here a lot earlier in season - the Manchester issue was surely not the spend but the revenue. Which club has no courtside advertising at their games, which club has no sponsors on their kits? That was just the two really obvious to the casual spectator revenue issues. Need someone more local to answer these ones - is the Giants gameday revenue all standard ticket folk or do they have premium sponsor/hospitality/courtside income to help their revenue? Are the Giants active in the community and got a revenue stream through work with schools, community and social groups? The Giants squad depth doesn't imply they setout with a much bigger budget than the prior season to take advantage of the salary cap removal - but the visible revenue questions do imply things behind the scenes were not well and that is where the collapse to a pre-pack administration has resulted from.

The BBL are currently advertising for a new General Manager for Manchester Giants: www.bbl.org.uk/vacancy-general-manager-manchester-giants/I'm guessing that mean's they'll stay under the BBL's ownership next season. What role does Vince currently have in Manchester? Is he just Head Coach, or is he being replaced as GM?

No idea although I saw a post on Facebook the other day jokingly saying "if you see a job which you don't have the qualifications, ability or experience. Think of Frank Lampard and apply anyway." Although jokes aside I do wonder who they will get in and will Manchester Giants be here to stay next season? Surely 777 must know some mates that might be interested in joining the party?

Anyone heard any rumours about Fletch taking the GM job in Manchester now that he’s retired? On Sky yesterday he said an opportunity had come up that had made him decide now was the right time to retire from playing, even though physically he thinks he could have gone on a few more seasons.
I’m probably putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5… but has anyone heard anything or had thought the same thing?

Yes he said that his mum was happy that he was going back to America as he had a couple of opportunities waiting for him.
