Interesting, although I don't quite think I see what's in it for the NUFC owners if they lend 777 money?
Ideally I would love it if the NUFC owners were to also invest in Eagles aswell. Then perhaps 777 may just even the playing field again so more rich investors start taking on other BBL clubs.
If that is the direction their looking at then it could be a good or a bad idea at this point.

They wouldn't be lending, they'd be investing for a percentage of the business ala dragons den. Hey maybe 777 should try going on there! I'd love to see Peter Jones tell us how crap the business is and how crazy their valuation is.🤣

I'd always much rather be owned by people who care for the sport, community and the city than be some tool for sportswashing. Even if that means we never win another trophy again.

I'm sorry, I'm out.

Back on a serious note I never realised how much 777 were invested in asides from the BBL. Seems like a child with alot of toys to play with if you ask me.

Well this is worrying. It would be bad enough losing London Lions or any franchise for that matter. But I would hate to see the League also go down in flames as well because of this. What I don't understand is if their supposed to be so dodgy then why are they being allowed to invest in so many sporting clubs and get away with this? I'd love to say I don't believe it but given how late the fixtures were announced and no TV deal despite media figures tripling. I have a worrying feeling something isn't quite right. I just hope whatever happens this doesn't end up being the final season for the BBL. That being said would their not be any way all the other teams could branch off and set up their own league. I remember their was talks of that when their was fall out between the BBL and Basketball England a few years ago.

If for any reason the BBL did collapse then the surviving clubs could always form a new league, although there would no doubt be an opaque licensing process to go through with the governing body/ bodies.

If 777 Partners and the BBL crashes I actually think the other clubs could come together and form a league, no problem. Sure, they would shed some of the higher paid players. I actually suspect anyone interested in investing in professional basketball in Manchester is holding off right now. Why buy a BBL franchise now which could become worthless overnight, when you might be able to start your own team in a few months without having to pay for a franchise.

The league has survived similar crisis before - the immediate thought is ITV digital crashing. It’s done remarkably to navigate through some bad moments not of their own doing. For example, most of the clubs have been okay post covid whereas some sports teams have felt the weight of the government loans etc

Well that would be both good and bad news in a way. Good in a sense that the BBL and the other clubs are still around. But also bad in a sense it could send the league backwards and we wouldn't attract as strong quality of players. A worry when you think about teams with the own arenas. Given some of the progress I have seen the league make I would hate to see teams end up going back to playing in glorified sports halls as a result of 777 destroying the league. I suppose no matter which way you look at it if this ship was to go down the result will most likely be caterstrophic for all involved. Unless post 777 someone else takes over who is more legitimate but also has big money as well.

Having read Josimar2, it’s time to face reality here. There is too much negativity around both 777 and BBL for any commercial partners to step up. Also, the level of basketball is not such where commercial partner are able to look beyond the current state of things. And the longer this goes on, the more the league will stay ostracised.
The Below the Rim podcast with Brown and Hodges as guests was even more grim.
A difficult situation for everyone who supports British basketball.

Going full circle on Everton Tigers. Imagine if 777 just go off on one and relocate the Lions to Liverpool and brand them as the Mersey Tigers? Incredibly unlikely but the idea makes me chuckle.

True and that does sound funny although taking the Lions out of the nations capital and moving them to Liverpool would certainly be a stupid idea. If they took full ownership of the Giants I could see then moving the Giants to Liverpool. Although it would be cool and a win win if they kept Lions and Giants going then reserected the Tigers back into the league.

This echoes what someone else said around here about the fixtures not being able to be confirmed pending the BBL paying for things like scoreboards etc. Very worrying.
