I'm watching live on youtube
Accoding to Dan Routledge he's 1 in 7 for free throws this season in the league
And 3 from 13 in all competitions
Must be up there with a shout of being worst free thrower in BBL by some way?
Lol

Remember that when you lose a close game. It's an open goal . Pathetic shooting

Someone that bad poses a risk of teams employing the Hack-a-Shaq strategy therefore he can't be on the floor in the late stages of a close game.

Funnily enough no one has done it all yet, I'm kinda surprised to be honest. He's been so impactful for us this season, but his free throws shooting is hilarious.

It was almost like Dan and Rowe were embarrassed to talk about his free throw stats today Maybe nobody realised how bad he is until now? The airball free throw may get the message out though I'm obviously happy to help spread the word on here!! Lol

Pretty sure it was mentioned on the SNB by Dave Forrester. He doesn't actually get to the line very much so I think that's why it's flown under the radar a bit. Might be a point of emphasis going forward for some teams now it's been brought under the spotlight a bit. He has actually airballed a couple others if I recall correctly.

Yes I agree his free throws weren't great but to be honest I have seen worse even in the NBA. However defensively I think he's a great player for us and certainly would like to keep him next season for that. Especially if we were to lose Darius to retirement or anything.

Weird to be that bad at free throws - it is literally the easiest skill to practise and be coached to improve. He must be embarrassed by how awful he is at the charity stripe.

Over the years there have been many players who don't shoot well - Shaq being the most obvious one and he worked so hard but never really got much above 60% and usually was around 50% regardless of how much work he put in, working with top level shooting coaches, etc. I don't think it was a mental block, he just didn't have the ability to shoot from that distance, as we often see with big men who play under the basket. Rarely do we see guards who are poor shooters. So I think it can be the skill side of it but when you have a situation like say, Vin Baker - he started a season for Seattle many years back by missing his first 18 free throws. He hadn't been a bad shooter previously, but it was a mental block issue, after missing the first few it becomes magnified, the pressure grows just to make one and stop the rot.
Or when Nick Anderson famously missed 4 key free throws in game 1 of the NBA finals and cost the Magic the game - they then went on to get swept and he went on to be quite a poor free throw shooter after that, having been decent before. Mental block.
But I don't think poor technique, shooting airballs, is down to a mental block. It's just a lack of skill in that particular area. Like for example, and sorry to keep using snooker analogies but it's what I know - Stephen Hendry always talks about how bad he was at doubles (playing off a side cushion into the opposite middle pocket). He just couldn't judge them right and always missed them. But, it's not a shot you need to play very often and didn't stop him being one of the best ever. Sometimes you can work round your limitations and still perform overall at a high level.
As for dartitis or the yips...I dont know. I play darts nearly every day and watch a lot of that too, I am still not convinced it's really a thing!

I don't think it's the yips. Not a lot of pressure on a few 2nd quarter free throws. His form is terrible. Looks stiff as a board, no rhythm in his shot whatsoever, knees still bent after he's released the ball, heels pretty much glued to the floor... He wouldn't look out of place in one of those HT fan free throw shooting contests. That's how bad he is. And to think he actually had the audacity to make a three against us Friday.
We've all seen players airball free throws before. And clearly this guy's strengths lie elsewhere. But he is legitimately one of the absolute worst shooters you will see. Off the top of my head I can't think of another career 33% FT shooter. Even the historically awful NBA guys shot 40-50%.
