Believe today is the last day available to register new BBL players.
Anyone heard any rumours of any change? Or expect any?
Sounded like an addition in Manchester was imminent after the weekend before last, but been quiet since...

Manchester definitely need another player, not sure there's many high profile British free agents on the market who would seem to be available. Anyone know? Bigby-Williams is about the only player I can think of, but not sure he'd sign in the BBL anyway let alone for Giants.

Given the timing I wondered if they might be working on getting someone a release. If they want to sign Kavell, why not do it immediately after Corey Johnson left? Obviously that opens up a few more options if so... They defo need another player who can impact games. Nick Lewis plus two - admittedly good enough - role players in Jones and Robertin isn't enough.

Going by the eyes emoji on their Twitter it suggests Giants have managed to sneak one in yesterday...

If so that’s fairly incredible if they are being “supported” by the league?

Kofi Josephs!
Game changer for the Giants that - another elite scorer from the bench.
You're right though, baldeagle - mad that this is being funded by the league.

Not overly impressed with this signing whenever I’ve seen him play it’s always been about him not found him to be a team player

Potentially a great signing for Manchester (I thought he was playing in Saudi Arabia this season?), especially if they aren't spending their own money at this point 😂 Although he has always came across as a bit of a diva with a very fragile ego, maybe Vince's placating management style will get the best out of him.

Has there been a rule change to allow more than 1 ball in play at any one time! Been seen in crowd a few times so guess this is the only option they could come up with to add to squad. Would have thought a 3/4 would have been better choice if one was available.

I’ve been wanting them to get a 3/4 since Johnson left but ones who can play at BBL level are hard to find and the good British ones - Wheatle, J Williams, D Williams etc - are all in good jobs in good leagues. Interested to see how and where Josephs is used. Dirk not needing to be on court for 38 minutes a game is probably a positive though. Probably means more Lewis at point too, which I honestly don’t hate.

Josephs can be a hell of a scorer but he can also be pretty streaky in a bad way as I recall.

More of a subtraction, but Lions have announced Koufos has been de-registered from the BBL so the other 5 imports will play the rest of the season

Correct - Koufos now exclusively for Europe. London imports for remainder of BBL season (including playoffs) are Best, Taylor, Dekker, Hruban & Zubcic. (Still enough to win whenever they want to…..)

I think the decision to deactivate Koufos is a bit more significant than that personally. Yes they've still got the best and most expensive roster in the BBL. And the league should be pretty much in the bag now. But they've essentially just lost a guy who was averaging 13.5 ppg domestically and was leading the league in rebounds, second in blocks. I've yet to be convinced that Lions' guards/wings are head and shoulders above the competition in this league. For me, the frontcourt is where their huge financial superiority has always been obvious. Remove Soko and Koufos and that previously indomitable frontcourt starts to look a little thin. They've basically got three senior players for two spots now, no? And one of those guys is foul prone and tough to rely on for major minutes.
I think the playoffs have just got a little more interesting. I imagine there were other factors at work here but purely from a winning standpoint, this seems like a suboptimal decision. I think there are other imports on this roster they'd have missed less.

Surprised at this too. Hruban hasn't been great and has been somewhat injury probe. He'd be the obvious choice surely. What happens if Sharma gets in foul trouble in a playoff game against Leicester when their up against both Menzies and DNH? Unless he's playing through injury so their limiting his minutes it's definitely not the optimum basketball decision.

I would have chosen Zubcic over Koufos as well as he seems to have lost his shooting form since injury. But if it keeps Kosta injury free with the potential to re-sign next year I don't mind.

London had to ditch someone from domestic competition, and I can sort of see why they chose Koufos. I don't think the decision was as simple as who's our least valuable import. I think they wanted to ring fence someone for European competition, keep them rested, keen them injury free, etc. So they chose someone who they felt wasn't critical to domestic success but was also of high value for European success. That's my view of it anyway.

That's my view of it anyway. I agree with you. In fact, before the salary cap was scrapped I imagined there would be a few players with a European role only. I don’t mind this at all at this stage of the season. In the BBL Decker + Koufos is unbeatable. This change evens things out a bit. Zubcic might have to get more involved in the front court. Sharma/Zubcic vs Menzies/DNH is an interesting match up.
