Ive made this a separate thread as there seems to be a lot going on surrounding the £ions and I thought it would be interesting to get peoples views on the discussion that starts at the 8 minute mark and goes on for another 48 minutes......
To quote someone else.......feel free to discuss....

I agree with Dave that it's very fishy indeed to play the C team in the trophy then go back to the A team for a meaningless league match two days later. Not throwing your best guys in while there sat on the bench when the game is close with minutes to go is ridiculous. If you want to throw the game legitimately just bring your C team and the NBL2 guys and say "flu had went through the camp" or similar.

Before the game started in Glasgow, London put this on twitter so that is 3 of their many players taken care of. Plus Soko was suspended.

Clearly the game was engineered and war gamed as a loss by Lions and therefore 777 no doubt had some involvement, at some level. The flip side is should Schmidt actively be losing winnable games then clearly his coaching judgement is up for question and should be shown the door - however it appears he was leaned on. So, the reasons could be myriad, but neither are acceptable. All it has achieved is to fuel the growing number of critics who are calling the BBL a farce and showing disdain for a trophy that is already under threat. The wider implications for the entire League couldn't be more serious, especially given that 777 have active financial involvement in at least 2, maybe 3 clubs. Despite efforts to the contrary, the BBL has never looked in worse shape imo.

People are calling London Lions fishy. I choose to ignore that for now. There is a lot they are doing that I agree with. For example the double header at the Copper Box this Sunday. Women’s game followed by men’s game on one ticket.
I guess Luke Nelson has replaced Ovie Soko as the British face of London Lions.
I’ve said all along, I will enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.

Very informative and interesting discussion as usual. Can't disagree with any of their comments about the Nix 4th quarter. We definitely ran out of steam just as Lions found their rhythm, didn't help that Lions had a good night's sleep in Chester and the Nix team arrived back in Ellesmere Port at 1 a.m. from Surrey.

I’m still struggling to accept London (with or without 777 involvement) engineered a loss in this game, for whatever reason. And even if they did, they nearly failed at that because they only lost by 2 points in the end. For augments sake, let’s say they did, how would that be viewed by governing bodies… that’s match fixing for somebody’s advantage, which is illegal, right? I just can’t believe it. What I can believe is that London disrespected the Trophy competition, and Caledonia, by thinking they’d still walk it even with their ‘B’ team. Put this loss down to arrogance maybe?

"Viewed by governing bodies" who would that be then? Hmmmm ! I suppose in this case, given it was a BBL fixture, that would be FIBA. FIBA defines match fixing as the act of playing or officiating a match with the intention of achieving a pre-determined result. Again, I don't think London did that, but if they did wouldn't they be violating FIBA rules. And potentially also breaking the law?

But that is probably quite a small demographic in the grand scheme of things.

But that is probably quite a small demographic in the grand scheme of things. Over in the Ovie Soko thread I said back in 2020 London needed Ovie more than Ovie needed London. By that I mean there was a time, back during his first stint, when his reality tv star fame was a huge driving force for getting people to attend games. I witnessed it first hand, in the last game with a crowd in March 2020 there was about 3,000 people there – a large proportion just to see Ovie. Now however, with each passing series of Love Island, I don’t believe he has anywhere near that driving force. London are now sometimes getting 4,000+ people at game. Sure, some are still there to see Ovie, but not a large proportion anymore. I suspect more people are there to see NBA talent like Dekker and Koufos. So, whilst Ovie’s first exit was London’s loss, this second exit is more Ovie’s loss.

That's treading on thin ice with a large number of members of the BBL female supporters.
