He’s not wrong but this isn’t anything new. Bbl clubs very rarely do the right thing for the betterment of British basketball

Bbl clubs very rarely do the right thing for the betterment of British basketball I do agree both announcements are a bit of a shock but unless they can provide any reasoning behind it then I wouldn't judge just yet. Maybe they could have cut ties with Barking and looked to hook up with another club instead or invest money elsewhere in the league? For London and league fans though hopefully this isn't a sign the owners are about to run away or are facing difficulties.

I hope they are imminently about to setup their own 'proffesional' academy in the style of those in Spain etc. But if not, can't blame them, spending time and money developing players just for them to go to college in the States makes little sense from a commercial perspective.

I feel the opposite. Until they can provide reasoning behind it I'm gonna assume it's negative.
777 should have much more media savvy than this and understand that those two announcements will not look good.
If they are gonna stop working with Barking Abbey, immediately announce what you are gonna do instead.
If they are gonna sack their coach, do it at a time that makes sense. Hold a testimonial. Let the fans say thank you to the coach.
Twice now they've cut ties with long time coaches of their club with no chance for their fans to celebrate the achievements.
Until they do that it all seems pretty amateur to me.

I think BA have a lot of goodwill in British Basketball due to their historic achievements and the career of Lloyd Gardner, but I can understand that if you're Lions and wanting to impose your own legacy / brand it might not necessarily be the best fit. However the lack of explanation / positive spin is a bit concerning particularly on the back of the Mark Clark news.

I’ve said all along these are bad news the league will suffer no good will come of them taking over the entire league shame but I’ve seen it all before

I doubt they care what internet basketball nerds like us think. They want wins, they want new customers, they want to increase the value of their investment through getting their people in place. There's no room for sentiment. Yeah it'll probably fail eventually but let's enjoy the ride

When it says the removal of Mark Clark, I read he was joining their management team hence no longer coaching the ladies? So that's not necessarily a negative thing. The tweet makes out like he's been sacked or something. Mark was disappointed but they've given him another role rather than just get rid of him.

I don’t live in London so I’m not a very good customer, but I have subscribed to Euroleague TV, and I went to the BBL Cup Final. I wouldn’t have done either of those things if it wasn’t for this big budget Lions team. And I am shamelessly enjoying the ride. If it all falls down I will move on to the next thing.

Problem is they're a big fish in a small pond and in Europe they become a small fish in a big pond. I'm not sure how sustainable that is. Even fair weather fans want to see competitive games not easy wins and those sorts of fans also will lose interest in the euro games if wins aren't commonplace.

Being an Eagles fan I really quite enjoyed easy wins most weeks for the majority of my adult life 😂

Really? It wasn't boring going to games knowing you were going to win easily? For a couple of seasons in Brighton I experienced that, certainly against the lower placed teams - and it just wasn't that interesting. You'd enjoy the game more for any spectacular plays that would come along but end of the day, there's nothing like winning a close one against an evenly matched team! I think the fair weather fans would lose interest if every game was a 30 point blowout (I know that isn't the case at the moment but it could become so).

This is the statement at the bottom of the front page of the London Lions website.
LDN “The one and only Professional Basketball team playing at the Copperbox Arena in the British Basketball League; The London Lions. Using the sport to help young people and create a fun Arena event.”
If they’re no longer helping Barking Abbey they must have plans to do something. UEL London Lions are doing well in D3, looking good for promotion. Maybe that is where their young people focus is going to be.

There was odd game I'd think that (Leeds Force for example) but otherwise it was just a joy watching such great players tbh. Ask a Barcelona fan if they got bored of watching Messi, Xavi and Iniesta every week. And don't forget also as a Newcastle United fan, seeing a team win things is somewhat novel.

To be honest when a coach or manager is sacked I don't think I have heard of them getting a thank you match. I suppose Ian did for us last season but he resigned and agreed to go at the end of the season. The way everyone describes 777 at the moment all I have in my head is the 100m running scene in the comedy flim the Dictator. Where he is running and shooting the other competitors as he runs. 777 haven't won the past 2 seasons so they changed the rules so it would become easier to win.

Why have they taken him out of that role though, it's not like he wasn't winning!
