Excellent news. It's about time the NBA learns from what the NFL have been doing in the UK for years.
The schedule is a bit 'messy' - 4 regular season games, 2 playoff games, 1 conference finals game and 1 NBA Finals game, but any basketball on FTA television (and iPlayer) is good news.
The BBC will have their own presentation team too - this week Jeanette Kwakye will present in the studio alongside Ovie Soko and Nathan Caton. Commentary will come from Niall Gray and Rob Paternostro, with Nesta McGregor on site in Paris.

I am surprised they were able to get the rights to any games with Sky having the contract! But yes, has to be a good thing.

I am surprised they were able to get the rights to any games with Sky having the contract! But yes, has to be a good thing. Rumour has it that Sky's deal hasn't been exclusive for a few years now. Also, I doubt this is the BBC 'being able to get' some coverage. I suspect this is the NBA essentially giving away some limited coverage to FTA television to hopefully boost the NBA's following in the UK. Something the NFL have been doing, with good effect, for years now.

But what a shame they still show so little interest in British Basketball Just clicked on the BBCsports site, there are 20 pictures/ reports on basketball all 20 reporting on the NBA. NOTHING mentioning the BBL or any British basketball! I did spot an article about a month ago with piece about one of the NBL teams thinking about move upwards, it was so long ago I can't remember who it was. Wonder if the BBC remembers what the initials stand for.

They want to have a look at this site, its like pulling teeth getting any NBA discussion here! And it is heavily BBL based, which apparently is a bad thing (source: the original basketball fan forum set up for discussing...british basketball! )

I thought bbc 3 went bust years ago??? It moved exclusively online as that’s how young people watch all television these days. Then it was so successful at that it moved back to traditional television. The NBA coverage will be on both traditional television and iPlayer.

Just learn that BBL stands for Brazilian Butt Lift and you’ll be up there with them and the BBC programmers !

failing to get excited by this - imho does nothing for british basketball there are plenty of options already in place for NBA fanboys to get their fix - so dont see how this fits into the charter and aims of public service (and public funded) BBC
would have got more excited if the BBC started to show the same degree of interest in british basketball (male and female) as they do to the womens football FAWSL. Starting point would be BBC coverage of the two GB senior squads if they are not ready to go to BBL and WBBL coverage - but to focus on another country instead of its own domestic and national team is why i fail to get excited by this.

Apart from a few games on Sky Sports YouTube channel, I'm not aware of another way British people can watch the NBA for free (yes, I know you need a TV license)? So any kind of additional basketball exposure to a wide audience has to be a good thing, right? More people watch the NBA, maybe more people want to go to an actual basketball game... and therefore discover the BBL. And then maybe the BBL's popularity grow, and so on... I'm not saying having a few NBA games on the BBC directly benefits the BBL, but it's certainly a step in the right direction. And that's got to be better than nothing. Also, on a side note, I've seen a bit of criticism for the BBC not showing the BBL. I feel we need to cut them some slack... for a few years directly before the Sky Sports deal the BBC showed a BBL game every Friday night on Red Button, BBC Sport app, and iPlayer. And I think the Cup/Trophy/Play-Off final was very occasionally on BBC Two. I suspect the BBC weren't really paying much for it, if at all, whereas I know the Sky Sports deal at least covers the cost of the BBL providing the coverage. But let's not forget ultimately it was the BBL's decision to move it's coverage to Sky. Probably justifiably so, but still their decision.

I think it's a little bit narrow minded to be anti-NBA in this way. When I first got into the sport it was thanks to the NBA being shown on channel 4. Six months later I was at my first BBL game and that was that, I continued going until the team folded. Engaging people in the sport is important, its about developing the audience not just appeasing existing fans.

Ditto, ditto and ditto. It was then going to the basketball at the London 2012 Olympics (and Lions moving to London) that got me following and attending again after a few years gap. I know we all want the BBL to grow, but maybe a handful of NBA games on the BBC (amongst other things) is a step towards that happening. If nothing else, I can't see it having a negative impact.

Think 5 reasons might be pushing it when one is to "see Wenbenyama appear" on camera, but exciting nonetheless!

Yeah more to the point you get to see one of the teams (Pistons) tanking to try and get Wembanyana in the draft!🤣
