Of course it’s not enough to compete with London but it should be enough to stay in the BBL. From what Aaron Radin has said he wants to increase centrally generated revenue which will be split equally between the teams, so the fact that Phoenix can’t get more than a thousand spectators should become less of a problem. It’s actually very cool that Ellesmere Port has a top division professional sports team in any sport. Most towns that size don’t have that. don’t get me wrong I love having a team in my home town and had many exciting seasons where we have competed with all teams in the league with lions I feel that has been taken away from most teams now I hope I’m proven wrong and I’m watching a competitive league that any team has a chance But you could argue that with the Premier league in football and say what London Lions and 777 are is the same as what Newcastle United and Man City FC are now. Before they were taken over by Billionaires they struggled in the football leagues. Whereas now City has won a few premier league titles and Newcastle are currently 2nd in the Premier league. Alot of teams in football for example Southampton, Wolves and Crystal Palace etc... don't have big money and never expect to win the league. Yet fans of those teams are still passionate and love there football. And I would like to think 777 wouldn't want any team to exit the league and be more wanting to grow it and hopefully welcome some additional teams too to make it even more competitive.

London Lions should be able to win every trophy, with Riders having a chance of winning an occasional trophy. But Phoenix will be able to win most of their home games against the other teams, and their place in the BBL should be secure. I expect the barrier to entry into the BBL will increase a lot and the Phoenix are on the right side of that barrier.

Totally agree Riders in the past had to try and afford to play in Europe to create a challenge for themselves as the league was becoming too easy to win And we were never going to really compete in Europe Now Lions have brought very good European standard to BBL So now we have a challenge just to win BBL Maybe we focus on finding a way to beat Lions in BBL And let Lions be the ones losing money trying to compete in Europe It works for me I watched last part of the game on youtube We didn't roll over Rob will find a way to beat these guys They are definitely raising the bar in the BBL But we can beat them Last season's Riders could have beat Lions tonight IMO They aren't unbeatable for sure. But anyone who does beat them will feel it's a real accomplishment Lions have improved as the season has gone on. The bar has been raised. The challenge is there I disagree, lions havent matched the first 10 minutes of the season yet, that was the best basketball ive ever seen in the bbl. Theyve been in 2nd gear since I watched Nix look incredible for 10 mins v Lions not so long ago You can't judge a team on a ten minute spell tallerman

I used to work in Ellesmere Port but I have never been to watch Cheshire Phoenix. It is interesting that Nix gets quite a lot of comments on a thread about a game that they aren't even playing in. Few observations from a long time supporter. Dexter....So why didn't you go to see Phoenix? Plan a visit next time and I'll show you around! If 777 don't really care, when will they get bored of playing the one or two other "big city" left in the league? Big cities/ ig populations have a myriad of other attractions Thank you, that’s kind of you to offer. I worked in Ellesmere Port before Cheshire Phoenix played there. I lived on the Wirral, not really in the Chester Jets catchment area. I now live in the South and I only visit the Wirral a couple of times a year. However I would like to coordinate a trip home with a visit to Cheshire Oaks Arena. I drive past Cheshire Oaks and it is near the end of my journey.

Actually thought Riders played pretty well. Before the game if you'd told me that we'd have been -15 from 3 I'd have assumed we'd lose by 30-40. Realistically felt the only way we could beat them was with them mis-firing and us hitting a barrage of threes. The fact that we were competitive despite the disparity from behind the arc is impressive.
At least we made lions work for it. Last time they were basically running lay up lines for 15 minutes and then going through the motions for 25. They didnt do that this time. Felt like we controlled what we gave up a lot better this time...with the exception of a couple of breakdowns that allowed Nelson easy looks at 3. You have to give up something, they're just too talented, but we forced them in to tough shots more often than not. Problem is they have players that make tough shots. And when they don't they have the length and strength to punish you on the offensive glass.
That was the main difference for me. Offensive rebounding and some really good shot making. At key times too. Late in shot clocks. End of quarters. Took the momentum out of our comeback with a big shot or we play 24 seconds of really good D and force a miss only to give up a put back.
And on the other hand we shot relatively poorly. And it wasn't just because we were taking tough shots. Got a lot of good looks from range. With the players we would want shooting them. They just didn't go in. Near impossible to beat Lions doing that. Even if they were missing some key guys

Big market teams is what they want. They see how they can move nba franchises and probably think they could do the same here but they cant

I must admit that I don’t watch a great deal of the other BBL sides unless we are playing them,
I was very impressed with what Lions bring to the table such a difference now that The Puppet master Vince is not pulling the strings,( I suppose the cash helps too ) He’s the only coach that could balls this roster up.
Going on our second half performance we more than matched what was in front of us and that should give us a massive boost going in to the cup final. We now need a fully fit Washington to give us a further boost from the bench and we’ll be alright.

The best they (we) can hope for is something like the Scottish Premiership. That is, if someone wants to fund another big budget big market team. Then you can have a 2 horse race every season, and teams like Leicester Riders are fighting for third place.

Yeah that’s my interest for BBL done this season. Don’t really see the point watching mis-matches. I suppose the best part of this season is seeing every other team in BBL level out at competitiveness that anyone can beat anyone. Its posts like this that make Riders so dislikable by many (I include myself in this) It screams arrogance. Because you're only competing for 2nd now, you have lost interest? Where were you when riders were sh*t?

Used to often go football in the afternoon / chippy tea / then off to the Halls
