Interesting. I’d love to see Birmingham back in the BBL. I’m cautiously optimistic about all this, but I do have a couple of concerns about the article. Playing out of Arena Birmingham or NEC Arena… isn’t that a bit optimistic initially? Also, the bit about the BBL franchise fee rising from £150K to £1M. Yikes.

Both of these are very legitimate concerns hopefully we get a bit more news about both In theory them this would be great news and as has already been said seems like it has decent people behind it

That £1m franchise free has got to be aspirational only surely or the adding of new teams is never going to happen

Sounds really good this and it looks like their going to actually put the work in like BBL club have done to grow a fan based instead of going on the principle of we build it and they will come. I think using the commonwealth games this year as a advertising platform would be a great opportunity as well to get more potential fans onboard so I hope they cash in on this. I didn't know Hakeem Olujuwan was intrested in BBL basketball either.

Yes totally agree that it would be fantastic to see a top flight team back in Birmingham, The biggest surprise is that Hakeem Olajuwon is now living in Birmingham, Wow never saw that dream coming ! I’m also I bit concerned about them playing in big arenas, it’s been a while now since they had a team and the last lot were awful, so will they have lost what fan base they did have.
But look on the positive side and hope it all works out,

With the right marketing and arena location (both of which 'the last lot' failed at miserably) there's absolutely no reason Birmingham basketball shouldn't thrive.
The Hakeem link is massive. As is Bob Hope involved. But knowing Kirk Dawes and Rob Palmer both personally, having proper basketball people involved is the biggest thing in this. It's where we failed before.

Should consider calling it the Birmingham Blinders. As a Peaky Blinders fan you could even joke and say it was owned by the Shelby family! 🤣

Sounds very positive, I wonder if they should think about their own arena (Leicester/newcastle) rather than the high costs associated with the bigger arenas that could be half full, the sweet spot seems to be 3K capacity but with the full ability to be used as the team and academy training facility all week round, its more sustainable and as a core business asset will sit much better on a long term investment plan P&L (I wonder if the BBL insist on this within any new franchise application).

I'll have a piece of it all if it actually appears, but I'll have my eyes open.
So many false starts just continues to alienate many potential sponsors/spectators.
Having said that, its been a few years now since Birmingham Panthers so maybe any new proposals can be put to new sponsors/spectators who were not disillusioned by what happened with many previous attempts at reviving the bodies.
