London Lions are not content with being a mid table EuroCup team are they? It looks like they’re trying to win it. Are they trying to get into Euroleague? Surely that’s a step too far. Those teams have big budgets.

I wonder who is going to win the award for most signings in the course of the season. Looks like it's a battle between Eagles and Lions for that one.

The current level can raise the standard of the BBL. Euroleague is another level and the budgets are another level. The highest paid Euroleague players are paid more the total London Lions player salary budget. If there is more money they should invest it in the other teams. Lions already have a strong squad.

Presumably this would be an EuroCup only player as we're maxed out on imports and I don't see us cutting any of our current imports.
I'd much rather just stay as we are and wait for Tarik Phillip

Tarik out for season, Oni out for a month
Very disappointing news. On both fronts, I think if they really want to be competitive in Europe this signing makes a lot of sense, it will be a bit of a shame if he is unable to play in the BBL but oh well

I will eat my hat if they ever do this. 777 just wants to raise the value of the Lions so they can sell them for a profit. IMO they only bought the league so they could do things like remove the salary cap to make them more competitive in Europe. I get the feeling they wouldn't much care if the BBL turned into a 2 team league of Lions and Lions Reserves.

IMO they only bought the league so they could do things like remove the salary cap to make them more competitive in Europe. I get the feeling they wouldn't much care if the BBL turned into a 2 team league of Lions and Lions Reserves. 777 have openly said that once they'd purchased the London Lions they soon realised that the Lions could only be as big as the BBL would allow them to be. So they then purchased the BBL (well, 50% of it) too. No secrets there. 777 have also openly said they operate differently to other capital investment firms in that they don't make purchases to then sell them at a profit, and repeat. They make purchases to make them more profitable and retain them long term to reap those ongoing profits. So I can't see them selling the London Lions within the next 10 years(ish) at least. I do agree that Lions are their crown jewel though, and their interest in the other teams in the league is fairly minimal. Fortunately, those other teams still own 50% (or should that be 45%) of the BBL, so need to make sure they hold their own in big decisions around the BBL.

When they signed him, they announced he would play later this month, with so many games this month that’s a bit vague though and no reason was given

I'd much rather just stay as we are and wait for Tarik Phillip Having had a quick look at the rules on the BBL website, I think you can have as many foreign players as you want signed, but you’re only allowed five in the game D squad on any given day, with how many games they have, and the likelihood of injuries I think rotating which player misses out each domestic game should be pretty easy

I'm inclined to think this is still true, otherwise Lions would have registered Teague and Majauskas in the BBL last year

www.bbl.org.uk/faq/If you go down to eligibility criteria, that is where i got the information from, maybe I am understanding it wrong or maybe it’s just not a very detailed way of explaining the actual rule but to me there is nothing there saying you can’t do what I mentioned above

I think you can register/deregister a maximum of nine times a season….

I think the question is, has that rule changed this season? There's doesn't appear to be any evidence that it has though...

I believe you are right, see BBL Operating rules below :- 24.7 During the course of a season, any Club may license a maximum of 9 non-national players, subject always to Rule 26.3. For the avoidance of any doubt, any non national player who is delicensed and subsequently relicensed by a club will count as a new licence for the purposes of this calculation. Out of interest, Newcastle seem to have registered 10 non-national players already this season.

Broadway and McKisick never played in the BBL and were gone before preseason ended (I think) so we're up to 8 in total, the current 5 plus Varner, Duke and Aughburns.

I guess it depends on the definition of "season", I'm not sure the season starts with the first scheduled BBL game.
Also, all players that have been signed by the club would need to be licensed before the first scheduled BBL game, and may even need to be licensed before some, if not all, pre-season games.
If this is the case, both Travon Broadway Jr and Brandon McKissic would/could be included in this count.
