Devon Van Oostrum has been released by Lions.
Lions are adding former Jazz wing Miye Oni, Oni the 58th pick in the 2019 NBA draft, is a former Ivy League player of the year who made 80 NBA appearances across 3 seasons with Utah, and averaged 12.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.3 steels in the 19/20 G League season.

Seems like a great signing, particularly if he can consistently sink some 3s. Another guy like Dekker who could arguably still be getting minutes in the NBA. But odd to cut the only natural creator/facilitator rather than one of the many other underperformers on the roster.

I think DVOs departure was inevitable - last few games Coach hasn't really given him a look, prior to that he had about 1 min in a euro game and got 2 turnovers. Clearly a good player but not the long term fit for him.
Excited to see what Oni brings

Not sad to see DVO gone, and think this could be a great signing, but very strange not to sign a guard

Just doing some research... did Oni actually play any games for the Utah Jazz, or was he assigned to the Salt Lake City Stars (G-League) whilst affiliated with the Jazz? I'm struggling to find evidence he's actually played any NBA games... but maybe I'm not looking at things right. That's not to say he's not a good player of course, and a welcome signing for London!

Reading Jazz fans talk about him they seemed to think he had a decent bit of potential originally as a 3 and D wing, but the 3 wasn’t NBA level and other young players overtook him
This is a much lower level though obviously so hopefully those two traits are evident from the get go, they don’t say much positive about his ball handling or passing though so he doesn’t seem to be a direct replacement for Devon

Sure he’s a great player - but he isn’t a PG so Nelson is going to be playing 35+ Mins/game.

Maybe Tarik is gonna be back sooner than anticipated? Or maybe Bradley Kaboza will be given proper minutes now? Or maybe they’ll continue with the failed idea of playing big and using Ovie and Dekker as primary ball handlers? With Oni also joining in
Or maybe they’ll actually sign a point guard as well (doubt this one lol)

He was assigned to the Salt Lake City Stars for the start of the NBA G League season. He scored a season-high 28 points for the Stars in a win over the Memphis Hustle on January 10, 2020."Sounds like he was primarily assigned to the Salt Lake City Stars in the G-League but also played for the Utah Jazz.
