Well great game for 3 Quarters but well done to Manchester Giants. I saw great things in both sides tonight but in the 4th Quarter they capitalised whilst we unfortunately fell apart. As for the Eagles whilst the loss is disappointing I certainly think we have potential. We shouldnt have allowed overselves to lose by 20 but I can see improvement already compared to how flat we were last season. Since I predicted Manchester to finish top 3 I'd cut the Eagles a little slack so long as the improve over the course of the season. And atleast the game wasn't boring compared to afew games last year as well. I think Coen was a stand out for us and atleast Marc and Darius really took command of the game to instead of sitting there and letting us fall apart until the end anyway. Oh well roll on Nix is what I say hopefully we can bounce back on the road and get the first win early this year. Totally agree. Newcastle gave a very good account, especially given the very short bench and Aughburns getting into foul trouble very early. Cohn looks a lovely player, will get a lot of joy in the BBL. Varley and Hamlet both showed plenty to suggest they’re capable pick ups too. Ultimately feels a couple of players and a bit of time for Steutel and you’ll be alright. Giants class told at the end. 20 point win on a very poor night for Dirk is a result you take every time. Lee and Fletcher a class above, and more applause for Tajh Green who looks a very, very good find by Vince.

LDN are going to absolutely smash Riders. They barely got out of first gear beating Sharks last week. I can't see Eagles beating Manchester, but think it'll be close. Eagles are a completely unknown quantity. And I don't really care about Sharks and Bristol, two most boring teams in the league by a mile. Think you nailed it with your predictions...oh, wait!

Dekker is great to watch. Very versatile. Considering we struggled to match their front court (which team is going to cope with Lions there?) and didn't have our starting American PG on court I reckon it was a decent contest. London always looked better but they didn't blow Riders away. Next time should be more interesting.

Love that Dekker plays hard and gets back quick on D, which not all players of his calibre would
Only caught bits of the game but seemed a decent performance overall despite the fouling

Thought the Eagles big rotation was very poor last night. Surprised Aughburns wasn't cut, considering how quick they cut 2 other players. I've not seen anything positive from him in the games I've seen this year. I'm still perplexed by the Shelton signing as well, he proved he's an average (at best) big in this league last year. He offers nothing other than the odd open dunk, he can't get his own in the post at all.
That's where the game was lost for me last night, their bigs were better than ours. Our guard rotation looks solid, but we lost a game by 20 where Mockford was making shots. He's not always going to do that.
London next week could well be a massacre.

And when you consider one of those bigs was Legend Robertin that’s a worry. Point about Mockford well made. Stopped it being a rout. Giants giving up a bucketful of points from the line (again!) helped too.

Yeah, thought the refs whistle was kind at times for us too. I know we were missing two wings last night and it's only one game, but I came away thinking this might be a looooong season for us. Manchester didn't even have to be that good to beat us convincingly.
Can't help but think we've had a whole summer wasted. I get that Steutel was at Eurobasket, but they're supposed to be a professional basketball club. It's incredibly frustrating.
Trying not to overreact from one game, but I'm not encouraged by what I've seen so far.
On a brighter note, game presentation was taken up a notch. Just need to replace Howard now, how he can't get simple names right is beyond me. Surely a little preparation wouldn't go amiss?

We kept parity with a much much better team in every position and with significantly more depth for three quarters. Don't think it's all doom and gloom yet. Giants have two of three best players in the league not at London (Fletch and William Lee, the other being Pat Whelan IMO). It absolutely sucks as an Eagles fan going from an undoubted title contender to hoping to make the playoffs but it is what it is, I'm not going to become a Man Utd and demand success just because of our reputation.

The ref crew were awful even by bbl standards, pot luck calls and some just baffling, like others have said eagles pre season been chaotic, you can see the lack of cohesion, hopefully coach can iron out these issues asap so we can be competitive, running a 7 man rotation isn’t going to get it done on most nights these days with strength in depth of other teams increased

What new guy ? Howard was as uninformative as ever. Why bother putting him on the officials' bench if he can't even tell us what the ref's calls are ? He doesn't have to comment on them - just tell us who's fouled who. In his own words, MAKE SOME NOISE to fill the long baffled silences waiting for the game to restart !

Manchester have a good starting five, they aren't deep. They brought Callum Jones and Nick Lewis off the bench, the should be there for the taking but our guards didn't seem to want to attack them at all. Any positives from last night are outweighed by how poor our forward line is. Undersized and underskilled at this point.......

There was a group sat near me at their first game last night (NBA fans). Even they could see he was getting names wrong when announcing them, it's starting to get embarrassing now.....

Just caught up on London vs Leicester now and avoided the board. I think take away that 4th Quarter we were alright but still a work in progress right now. I dont think we are going to win the championship but I think after last season what we're looking for is signs of improvement. If we finish 4th-6th then we would have jumped 3 places higher then last season. As for Riders@Lions unfortunately I think we are going to struggle against Lions next week. Leicester put up a brave fight but given the amount of dunks conceded I never felt London were really threatened by them. And I agree with the Soko ejection was pretty unnecessary and a dumb rule but if its in the rules then it cannot be argued. Only other thing I will say from the Eagles and Giants match is I don't like Manchesters yellow strip. Look to similar to Sheffield and London if you ask me.

I imagine Fletcher enjoyed his evening at Newcastle very much. Showed why he's still a major player/general in this league. Good for him.

Schmidt has definitely managed to organise £ions into a consistently effective defensive force. They prevented Riders from getting into a rhythm. Yes, we know they can be amazing with offence but it's defence that wins championships as Paternostro demonstrates year in year out. We'll need to break down that defence better next time but Thornton will be in the mix by then so I'm optimistic we can do that.
