On a slightly more welcome note Sharks have announced that their home opener against the Lions is already sold out 10 days before the game. I can't recall a Sharks sell out for many seasons (but could be wrong). There is a fair amount of optimism amongst Sharks fans with the returning squad but I wonder if this is also down to the start of the 'Lions Effect' and the big names are going to draw big crowds throughout the league?

Great news. There's a real buzz around this season that I've not felt for a long time.

It'll also be the first game of the season in front of the Sky Sports cameras too. Speaking of London Lions, tickets are selling very well for their first home game of the season too. And they've opened up the upper tier of the Copper Box too, so there should be a few thousand in attendance (I'm going to guess in the region of 3,000 to 4,000). I've already booked mine. They've also revised the ticket prices this season too - £20 for a standard ticket (lower tier along the sides), I think about £16 for lower tier on the ends, and about £12 for upper tier. Overall, all good news.

Reckon it's the "wow" factor for the All Star Lions.

I know a few of my colleagues in London go occasionally but their major gripe was with expensive tickets and lack of atmosphere. On another note circa 300 tickets for Eagles opening BBL game left, mostly in the corners behind the nets which are always slow to sell.

While I did not go to see him specifically, when I saw Decker play I will have paid around $90 at the Toyota Centre - and I am looking forward to seeing him again for a lot less this time round. Then throw in their CZ guy and the GB guys - I will be doing all I can to be free for those visits, though knowing my luck I will be coaching my team and not make them all.

But would casual fans be aware of how stacked Lions are now? Only serious BBL fans would have been following what's been happening around the league during the off season. To have a sell out well in advance is quite amazing. It might be the Lions factor but perhaps it's something else that Sharks have done too?
I was shocked to see how popular the Steelers ice hockey team are, huge crowds for them. So it can be done for these 'minority' sports!
