Are we still wearing Rocks gear? At the Scottish invitational last weekend - they weren't even wearing what looked like a recent Rocks kit as regulars like Bunyan didnot have name their name on the back. Front of kit had a sponsor logo ECS and looking at the kits from the CHeshire game today same logo on front and back has Compliance. but yes still at this time the men are wearing Rocks gear.

I remember back in 1998 seeing the Edinburgh Rocks for the first ever time at Crystal Palace Vs Towers.
Sad to see one of the last remaining teams from that era go through another needless rubbish name change.

I had to laugh at that bit about trying to make our League the 2nd biggest behind the NBA.
IT. AIN'T. GONNAE. HAPPEN!!!
There is zero chance, someone needs to bring them back to reality. Basketball is very much a minority sport here and it'll remain that way during our lifetimes.
EDIT - Just saw Great Britain's Baseball team qualify for the World Baseball Classic

I don't know what a realistic ambition would be, or how it would be measured. These statements seem ridiculous to me. As for GB baseball team, that's amazing. I don't follow baseball but I know the World Baseball Classic is in effect the World Cup of international baseball.

Yes I did wonder what measure was being used on the second biggest sport in Scotland - if its registered members, then just got to quadruple the basketball membership (depending on which number you take for the respective sports registered members) to get close to Rugby.

So are the new owners rich or not? It doesn't seem to mention anything about how rich they are in that article.

He was the co-founder of Smart Metering Services and reportedly sold his share of the business for £55m in 2013. How much of it he wants to spaff on a fanciful basketball project only he knows. I suppose there's only so many Ferraris and solid gold toilets one person can buy so he may as well spend it on something.

Press release seems a bit pie in the sky. I hope the new owners are sensible, realistic and don't disappear after two years when their dreams of the BBL becoming the new ACB become obviously unattainable, leaving the Rocks as an ancient history..

EDIT - Just saw Great Britain's Baseball team qualify for the World Baseball Classic To be honest theirs especially since 777 came along I noticed a lot of new owners and BBL pioneers tend to come out being over ambitious. When I heard the guy on the the BBL show who wanted to make a new Birmingham franchise say he wanted a NIA arena like venue I was thinking woah steay on and wondering if he realises 3 previous franchises in Birmingham were born and crumbled. Whilst it does sound good to dream and have a goals to aspire to as I do believe the BBL has a lot of room to improve and develop. I agree with you in the sense of it would take a couple of decades atleast before the BBL becomes anywhere near being the 2nd best league outside the NBA. If anything the league needs more growth and more teams for starters as well as more stability for all current franchises.

They're also promoting "the biggest league in the world 'digitally'" ambition. There's nothing wrong with being ambitious, even overly ambitious, but remember to stay grounded in reality too.

I suppose there's only so many Ferraris and solid gold toilets one person can buy so he may as well spend it on something. he did not pocket the money from the sale and retire - he and his wife have a number of other business interests (including a hotel where based on room rates if you can afford to stay you are rich). so while clear in the articles this is not purely a business transaction having the WBBL franchise and now the BBL one as well, fair to also assume this is not a retirement fancy fling and will like their other interests be run as a business with aims and goals and that surely has to be good for the sport. anyway back to erj14 question - I guess it depends on your definition of rich. I'd say so - anyone with multi-million pounds behind them as well as a number of businesses sounds rich to me.

The ambition is good so long as it does not end up driving a franchise to extinction. During my time following the BBL I have watched the following franchises fall and some even rise and fall. -Durham Wildcats -Mersey Tigers -Leeds Force -London City Royals -Birmingham Knights -Worcester Wolves I'm not sure if it would count as they sort of do exist in another form but I also Plymouth Raiders, Cheshire Jets and Guildford Heat. However alot of these franchise fell through for different reasons. Either they were to ambitious like Birmingham and Royals with the expectation of build it and they will come. Financially over spent like the Tigers. or had the money plug pulled on them like the Wolves as they werent ambitious enough to break away from the universities like other franchises. Sort of shows how ambition can be both a genius or a death sentence for a team. However in recent times one team that has come on well is Bristol who I have seen birthed into the BBL and seem to be on track for a new arena. That is a team path I would love to see new franchises follow when taking their first steps in the BBL. Amazing had all those teams survived the BBL would equal the size of an NBA conference at 16 teams which would be the dream.

Just watched a bit of the interview with our new owner, there was a bit where he talked about the name of the new arena.
It got me thinking, why not name it after a player?
I could think of no one better than the only Scot to play in the NBA, the late Robert Archibald.

I think the whole name thing centres on the new owners obsession with wanting the new arena to be called the colosseum

If this is the new jersey then it looks woeful
I for one will just watch the sport as a neutral
