Dont like him. Streaky as anything. When hes hot hes hot, when hes cold he stinks. More cold than hot days.
Not a guy you can rely on night in night out and wont stop shooting.

You got me looking at his stats Bigz? Last season he averaged 5.7 3pt attempts per game Playing 30 mins per game Making 2.2 per game Making 38.5 per cent Playing for a team that didn't make playoffs where he might think he needs to make some stuff happen Wouldnt describe those stats as someone who won't stop shooting Bigz? Maybe you've just seen him on bad days? He's always described as high basketball IQ and great defensively by coaches And he's a Canadian with British passport so has to be a good signing for Giants IMO I used to love his energy and attitude at Riders

For us Johnson was hot and cold last season but probably more cold then hot. He did step up for us during the Cup run when players were out either due to injuries or Covid but didn't do a lot to stand out. Was way more effective at Riders so I perhaps maybe he just wasn't use effectively when he played for us.

More impressive at Leicester than Newcastle last year, probably because the Eagles offence was so chaotic last season and he didn’t get a whole load of uncontested threes (query - will he get them this year with Dirk around?).
But a good signing for the beautiful city of Manchester..

But a good signing for the beautiful city of Manchester.. It was too easy for teams to nullify his 3pt threat last year due to how poor our offense was. He was usually marking the oppositions best shooter, and on top of that he had to pickup the slack defensively whenever Sieve Person was on court. If Manchester put a decent team together he'll be an asset for sure, if he's expected to do the Jamell role and play 30 minutes and get double figure pts every game then he'll struggle.

He averaged 30 minutes per game for Eagles last season And averaged 13 pts per game Decent stats for a Brit passport player I would suggest? Especially alongside having to mark the opposition's best shooter and playing in a team that was struggling? Vince must be happy to be able to get him IMO I imagine he was on large ish wages after Eagles tempted him away from Riders though?

Underwhelming from that point of view. Not sure his stats tell the whole story compared to watching him in person. He certainly didn't thrive in his increased role compared to Riders when the opportunity was there for him to really step up and be the lead on the team.

I kind of think if not on big wages Eagles new coach would want to keep him as part of the squad for the Eagles reboot
He's got a lot to offer for a Brit

I don't know what money he was on at Newcastle or how it compares to what the other players were getting but I remember being disappointed he was leaving us and being told 'there's no way we would even come close to what Newcastle were offering him'. They inferred he was being paid considerably more than he was worth in their opinion. I think for the money/role he had at Riders he's a really good player. Not so much the money/role at Newcastle. If the rumoured Giants signings are true then his role would be more like the one he had at Riders. Becomes a good signing if he's coming off the bench.

Glad to see some Eagles continuity from last season - pity it’s the wrong side of the Pennines !

The player himself said it was a "business" decision when he left Riders No doubt that meant money Will Steutel be able to find better "Brits" for less money?

If his ideal role is being the British sixth man shooter who might be hot or cold he's already been replaced by Ben Mockford. Still leaves a gap for a starting 3.

Has anyone got any official source Johnson and Gettys have actually signed for Manchester? Apart from speculation I haven't seen anything official like there was for Fletch.

1. Nuts to suggest Johnson was paid anything close to Fletcher 2. A basketball player making a business decision does not necessarily mean money. It can mean an increased role in the offence, more shots, more profile, more opportunity. That would fit with Johnson who was a fifth wheel catch and shoot guy with leicester but got considerably more opportunity with newcastle to create and play off the dribble etc. Not that it helped create wins. 3. Word at the eagles last year was that they did offer more than Riders, Riders eventually matched the offer but by that time Johnson had made up his mind. And it didn’t exactly hurt Leicester who just pivoted to Whelan instead.

Johnson on all Giants socials and their website. Gettys not announced, but reported by Mark Woods the day of the Fletch deal. He's usually kosher.
