I got to Crystal Palace a few times. It seemed like there more people in the pool at times. The programme was always chock full of advertising so no problems with marketing. Strange.

Although it's exciting seeing the talent being brought (back in some cases) in to the league, I can't help but feel the money would be better spent elsewhere.
I've maintained all along that I don't really care how Lions do in Europe and don't think it's as important as what Leicester are doing. It's artificial, and not a true reflection where we are at the moment.
Spending a fortune on salaries rather than investing in infrastructure which lays solid foundations for years to come seems mental to me. It all has a whiff of London City Royals, but on steroids.
Hope I'm proved wrong.

Crowds..when I ran a London team I was surprised that people related to their locality not the city. And it can take hours to cross the city. And Stratford is far East. Hope they can make it work. The product should be good but I can see a lot of blockages. Out of interest which team did you run gardielo? It's always good to have people from inside the sport posting here (except when they also happen to be dickheads lol). Are you still involved with any clubs?

Hi Sam. I don't want to give my name away. I doubt if many would remember any way as my glory days were the 90s

I believe there is a chance the Lions can attract fans from West London and people who have moved to London who will identify more with London than with any particular borough. For young people growing up in London it is only natural they will identify with their borough or region of London. But people in East London can be proud to be the home of London Lions.

Lions are rated in the bottom 2 or 3 teams by the bookmakers. Of course I am not expecting them to win EuroCup but I am predicting now they will not finish in the bottom two of their group. They will make the playoffs. They might lose in the first round of the playoffs but they will be there. Their squad is strong.

I'd put that down to bookmaker ignorance and just looking at the BBL in general being below the standard of the leagues the other teams are in. I doubt they've really done much homework into the roster being assembled. Could actually be a good punt if there are bets for them to finish in a certain position or above, for example.

I am not going to bet on them winning but I will look to see what other bets are available.

Is number of Instagram followers a good indication of interest in a team? I personally don't have Instagram but I did take it upon myself to see how many followers each team has.
London Lions has the most, 25k. Leicester Riders are second with 15k. London Lions are actually third in all indoor sports teams. Only Belfast Giants (36k) and Sheffield Steelers (28k) have more.
Is this real or can the owners distort the number of followers by paying for fake accounts? Would they do that?
If it is real this is very encouraging. London Lions have more Instagram followers than Cardiff Devils (24k), Nottingham Panthers (21k) and the most popular netball team Manchester Thunder (19k).

I think the fact they have so many followers when their social media has been crap for years (admittedly much better this summer) speaks volumes....

I'd think if you were going to pay for fake followers (which you can indeed do) you'd probably pay for more than 25k? Good on them for growing their presence.

Hard to gauge what it means given 777!are an American outfit. Followers could be from anywhere.

Hard to gauge what it means given 777!are an American outfit. Followers could be from anywhere. That's a very good point. If just a tiny percentage of American basketball fans, and Europeans, are following London Lions to see how this season pans out, that could amount to a lot of followers who won't be attending games. Still, I am taking it as a positive indicator.

Listening to the BBL Show with Brett Burnman this past week. It sounded like the idea to have no salary cap is to try and attract the some best talent and make the BBL the best domestic league outside the NBA. With the idea if London and Leicester become super teams eventually the money will come rolling into other clubs and they become super teams as well. That is what I understood from it anyway which sounds bold but could easily backfire. Just like how folded franchises with the Build it and they will come motto. Whilst I doubt an NBA franchise would happen here I would love to the NBA global games return and more links between the BBL and NBA would be good for both the league and our GB national side. Such talk seems like pie in the sky to me I can't ever see our league being at that Elite level. Just trying to be realistic, plus can't see it being financially sustainable. I'm sick fed up with sports clubs going to the wall, I'm not saying it will happen, but for a league like ours it seems unworkable for our standard of Basketball

Lions have released their season tickets and they are incredibly good value, for season tickets for all domestic games + Europe they are a pretty ridiculous £130 for upper bowl and £210 for lower bowl, with the amount of games it will cover it will work out around a fiver per game
£80 cheapest for domestic only season ticket in upper tier
