I'm just trying to make sense of all the investment with little hope of return domestically or even from European involvement
Is this stage 1 of a much more grandiose long term plan
That could generate the right income from NBA sponsorship and TV rights if they could pull it off?
Just a thought
You'd like to think they aren't just throwing money down the drain?

I doubt it - albeit when you look at how much money the Euroleague teams loose year after year, only surviving due to being backed by their associated football teams (Real Madrid) or a wealthy owner (Efes Istanbul) it does make you wonder what the end game actually is.. I can't ever see a huge TV deal being the saviour like it is for football.

Plus the NBA isn't even expanding at the moment. Seattle and Vegas are the likely spots for any new teams later on, I don't think Silver is really giving overseas that much consideration.

Maybe they’re hoping, they’ve got more chance of the Lions entering the Premiership than the NBA though

The good news is BBL would not really lose much if we had a London NBA team
In fact overall basketball would surely just grow in popularity if that ever happened
Whereas other countries like Spain would hate to lose one of their top teams to NBA
I think UK and obviously London would be prime candidates if NBA were to ever consider that move
And maybe Lions owners have half an eye on that?
Purely trying to think of how they ever make money from basketball in UK

Perhaps NBA should set up an NBA Europe Division
It would be similar to NFL Europe, they could use it to test out new rules

I think they’re hoping basketball becomes much bigger and more popular in Britain and Europe and Euroleague becomes profitable.

Interesting idea but I imagine another of people would view it as buying supermarket pop over Coca Cola and Pepsi.

I've just posted on the other thread but their investment guy from 777 on Hoopsfix explained they are to become an established European league team. Which must mean in the Euroleague. Where they are going to find the money to keep that going will be interesting. They surely won't want to run on a loss forever.

Euroleague were very reluctant in losing Russia. They are taking the opportunity replace Russia with new markets. I’m sure they’re hoping Russia will be able to return in a few years time and Euroleague will have a bigger market than ever before.
