This post on Facebook has caused some discussion….
Dear BBC. Just a reminder that Basketball exists, and is extremely popular in the UK. Unless I have missed something, every time I turn on the BBC coverage of the Commonwealth Games I have yet to see any basketball, despite the success we are having in the wheelchair and running game. (I know it's been on iplayer but why not regular TV.) I remember back to my days working with England Basketball and attending numerous Sport England meetings led by people with backgrounds in the main stream traditional sports. They never really got the game. But they wouldn't - it wasn't their background, or, dare I say it, their class. It was draining! I am usually loathe to use the term 'establishment' because it's too broad, but here I'm not. The sports 'establishment' in the UK still lets basketball down, and does not understand it's appeal and potential. The only change that is ever effected is by some extraordinary basketball entrepreneurs, despite the 'establishment'. And by 'entrepreneurs' I mean those who strive at both the elite and grass roots level, fighting to adapt to the barriers in the system, and break down the financial and class obstacles - because they know the individual and societal benefits of basketball.
Best wishes to all the players in the finals. Thousands know where you've come from to get to where you are and will be rooting for you. And congratulations to all those who gave them the opportunity and chance to be there.

I like it but I don't think the BBC are trying to disrespect Basketball as such. The problem is when it comes to games coverage they tend to stick to Atheltics, Cycling and Swimming usually.
Then only show snippets of other sports like Badminton, Judo and Boxing usually if their is a Brit somehow involved. Whilst I haven't noticed basketball on main TV.
I have only followed the other commonwealth sports like Hockey, Cricket and Bowls etc.. because of iplayer and I have it on whilst I work from home.
More then likely the BBC's response to Basketball not be televised would be join the queue.

I am always looking for signs that basketball is increasing in status. I did notice something positive on the BBC Sport website. Click on Menu and there are 10 main sports / tournaments listed. Below that (if I’m not logged in) there is a heading A-Z Sports and a list of 25 sports and categories including the major sports. Basketball is on that list of 25. The only other team games on that list of 25 are football, cricket, rugby union, rugby league, American Football, Gaelic Games, and netball. It will be seasonal so sports will be added and removed, but to have basketball on that list in the middle of summer is pretty good.
In terms of Commonwealth Games, I’m not really interested in 3x3. If it was normal basketball of course I would be watching that.

To continue my point; the BBC has placed basketball on the second tier of sports alongside cycling, darts, gymnastics, horse racing, mma, snooker and swimming.
And above sports such as badminton, equestrian and field hockey.
In terms of having full basketball at the Commonwealth Games, I imagine it was considered but it was decided there’s already too much international basketball on this summer? I would like to know.

So a good hour of beach volleyball on BBC1 this afternoon. Was watching with friends who said better than 3x3. Sadly as a spectator sport I think I agree.

Does EuroBasket start tomorrow? Only I haven't seen anything in the British sports media, even if I search for it. Has anyone seen anything?

Tbh dude despite how crazy an event this past Sunday's game was with an army of Lativian Fans packing out the Newcastle arena I don't think even BBC Look North gave it a mention. I agree though it is disappointing that no UK sports channel has thought to pick up GB's Basketball campaign. Although at least we still have the BBL on sky for now.

I agree BBC Look North coverage of an international on their doorstep, even with the Marc/Ben local link, was pathetic. Hoopsfix is your best bet for Eurobasket with free coverage for GB v Ukraine…
