Sorry call me IRF but I'm going to go on a double post rant.
The atmosphere or performance was nowhere near as it was at previous games in Newcastle, so that argument is out the window.
I'm finding it genuinely cheaper and easier to fly to Milan for eurobasket than it is, as a non driving "Southern" fan, to travel to Newcastle.
And I'm a teacher with 6 weeks off!!

No need, it's understandable the last game against Turkey I felt the atmosphere was a little flat so I'm hoping it might be a bit stronger this time. Although as a Newcastle native, we don't often get stuff up here especially national sport. It gives you an understanding of how it feels everytime a major event is on in London like the England football team or major cup finals. I was thinking about going to this years Commonwealth Games if it wasn't all the way down in Birmingham. So I do feel privileged we get Team GB basketball right now.

There is only 1 Latvian player I've heard of, but I didn't know what became of him after he left the Rocks, his name is Martins Malnieks, was there during 2011/12

It is the "Great Britain" basketball team so I do think it's appropriate to have games in the north of England. Londoners are soon going to be spoilt for elite basketball.

There is 2 Bertans who have been in the NBA as well as Porzingis, all are great shooters, if they’re in Newcastle it’s a very tough game

The only Lativian Player I heard of is Portzingas who last time I check was at the Washington Wizards. I remember watching him get drafted and felt bad because he got booed as he wasn't what the New York fans wanted at the time.

Not really GBbasketball fault - unless you took the game to somewhere that tourists never go, this date was going to be pricy for those of us looking to go from outside the area. Its the English August bank holiday weekend. There are festivals on in various places (including Newcastle), there are traditional rushes to the beach, its just a pricey busy weekend in general in England. Already looked at the hotels I would have normally used - one is £45 more and the other is £70 a more a night expensive than I normally pay at them. Heyho.

You say places that tourists never go like there isn't a good 5+ cities that would accommodate at least one game! All of which would likely fill as many seats as the previous Newcastle game. Haven't looked at hotels, but trains are equally as expensive as usual. Plus on a Sunday evening it is very difficult for any travelling fans

Plus on a Sunday evening it is very difficult for any travelling fans I don't see how the day of play would have an impact, I remember the games against Germany and Greece being during the week. And it is a bank holiday that weekend so for some it could be an excuse to make a weekend in the fine city. As for trains with them striking right now and costing a fortune I understand the trains not being ideal. But their is always the option of flying and we always have the Mega Bus or National Express. With the Express coach station being next to the Centre for Life and not far from the arena.

The Bears had a player, Jan Trojanowski, pretty sure he was Latvian. No doubt long retired now though!

So that was bothering me as I realised Trojanowski wasn't the Latvian I was thinking of. It was in fact Janis Ivanovskis who played for Worthing. He was a beast from what I remember. Think he was with Thunder in their BBL years too.
Still, I suspect the national team to be large, powerful and skilled but perhaps not that athletic. Anyone seen anything of them recently?
