I definitely understand peoples reservations about this, but I can see the logic behind it, and at the end of the day it’s always going to come down to Sensible owners not spending beyond their means, I don’t think the salary cap is ultimately going to change that happening or not, and we’ve lost four teams in as many years with the low salary cap so what is the worst that can actually happen, I think the only team that is really going to push the boat out is London and with the amount of extra games they are playing even if they do manage to get a bit more organised they are definitely going to feel the strain of the extra games On the squad so I think it will even itself out a bit Salary caps are pointless I mean, how many teams have folded since 2012? I've seen it in football where teams have folded and there was a Salary Cap in place. Australia's A-League has one and since the league started in 2005/06 there have been 3 teams who've folded.

Not sure if a salary cap's primary function is to prevent teams from going bust. I think it's just there to create a little parity in the league and for me was one of the attractions. It's why I enjoy American sports, it makes team building way more interesting.

I'm astonished by this. There isn't enough money in the game to support it. Even if 777 throw money at Lions how long will it last? I cannot see how they hope to get a return on investment. Remember Royals? A bad move in my view 🤢 According to 777 on the Hoopsfix podcast recently, they aren't a typical investment firm, and they don't have share holds or investors to make money for, they do it for themselves to grow a brand they see potential in, even if it takes 30 years. He also said they want the BBL to be the number 1 destination in basketball outside the NBA, so they must be extremely patient people Also saying 'Team Payments Cap' is such a British way to put it, why not just use the term salary cap that everyone in sports understands?! I would say it's abit too fast, if they are worried about British talent leaving, then why not have ideas such as franchise player contracts that wouldn't count towards the salary cap? Or raise the salary cap over the years, so teams can adjust. What about teams like Bristol? 750 seats in their arena, plus Sheffield and Surrey only have 1000. Its not just the salary cap was £250k and that's it. It means houses/cars/bonuses/equipment/travel that all needs covering for each player. If London now decides to spend £500k how would a Bristol team compete unless the owner just puts his own cash in? Do the fans want to pay £1000 for their season tickets

....so this is for the 2022/23 season....were the clubs made aware of this some months ago thus giving them assistance with their recruitment
OR

Clubs voted on this as its the owners who make all decisions on the league. That being said its quite obvious why they've done it!

Just listening to the Brett Burman BBL show podcast and I think he comes across very well and I thought his answer about the salary cap was pretty good

He also said 2 of the Eurocup teams have requested over 1000 tickets for the games in London, that’s very exciting
