Looking forward to seeing us compete in Europe again next season, Hopefully we get back some of last years roster and dramatically strengthen it.
Gonna be a busy season….

Hopefully, that means Crandall will stay for another season with this prospect.

Even as an Eagles fan saying this if they accept the Lions I Euro Cup and not Riders in the Basketball Champions League then something would be wrong.
Great news that we have 1 and most likely 2 teams now taking on Europe. Definately exciting times for the league as well.
Question is will the Riders team that returns be the same or even just as strong as the team that played this season. As I have said previously last seasons Riders was probably the strongest Riders team I had seen.
But will next season be a continuation of the success and they go one better? Or will it be a hangover season? Obviously Europe will either work for them or against them in the BBL.
I wish them good luck in Europe

Might make the league a bit more even at least, I think as long as they can return most of their squad especially Geno and a couple of shrewd acquisitions I think they will manage okay

Tbh even the qualification rounds look exciting and is still Euro Basketball. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous of Leicester and London right now.

Having to win 3 rounds in the qualifiers to get to the group stage Is pretty crazy, I can’t for the life of me remember if it was the same for lions when they lost to Bakken, But just like lions I think knowing that you go into the Europe cup even if you lose probably takes quite a bit of the pressure off

So the draw for the Basketball Champions League was made this morning,
With Riders being drawn against Romanian Side CSO Voluntari who last season finished runners up in the league and have won the Romanian cup for the last two years. Apparently it will be played at a neutral venue.

Sounds tough but anyone know the standard of play in Romania? Doesn't strike me as being one of the better leagues around?

Sounds tough but anyone know the standard of play in Romania? Doesn't strike me as being one of the better leagues around? To be honest with it being Tier 3 European basketball I would expect world beaters but regardless its still Euroball. Similar to the BBL I believe this competition was set up as an opportunity to allow developing basketball countries an easier way financially on to the Euro stage. Plus if we don't know them then they for Riders and Rob it should challenge their preparation for facing an unknown opponent.

I think some British basketball fans tend to significantly underestimate other non-elite leagues. If it's not top tier Spain, Turkey, France etc. then it's 'tin pot'. Which is a bit funny given how much work still needs to be done to put the BBL on the map in Europe. Last season's Romanian champions made the quarterfinals of BCL. The best teams in this country right now seem a long way from achieving something like that.
Like Riders, Voluntari are new to European competition and sound like they ought to be vaguely beatable but I doubt we'll start this one as favourites. Our chances of actually qualifying for the BCL regular season are slim to none regardless but it would be nice if we could beat this lot and get the winless in Europe monkey off our back at the first opportunity.

It’s been announced that riders are not going to enter the Europe cup, so if they don’t qualify for the group stage of the Champions League, which they almost certainly won’t then that will be the end of their European adventure this year, seems a bit of a strange decision to me, but oh well

Strange indeed and frankly very disappointing. I never imagined for one second we'd be opting out of Europe Cup. I thought that was realistically where we wanted to be. If this was the plan from the get-go it almost seems pointless us bothering with Europe at all. Unless Lions are going to share their gold with us, our prospects of qualifying for the BCL this season or at any point in the near future seem remote.
We've achieved near enough all there is to achieve domestically now. Regular participation in Europe Cup seems to me like the logical next step. If it's a step we're not interested in taking I'm not really sure how the club expects to move forward.
Suffice to say my enthusiasm for next season has just nosedived.

I'm assuming that they were struggling to fund a euro campaign and by entering the BCL it essentially bought them some time to source the money. Knowing that realistically they were/are very unlikely to make it through to the regular season of the champions league it was always about finding the money for Europe Cup. Obviously they couldn't. Sensible decision if that's the case. Doesn't stop it being incredibly disappointing. You wonder where the money will come from to make competing in Europe something we are able to do every year because that has to be the aim.

They wouldn't win the Europe Cup either. This is competing in Europe still. This is huge still. I'll be supporting this endeavour still
