Whos going to watch the Final tonight. 6pm
A delayed showing is on at 10:40 on free sports. Unfortunately Freesports are showing the German Football Cup Final so cant show live. I think you can pay £6 to watch live on euroleague TV.
Real Madrid vs Anadolu Efes.
I was hoping for Olympiacos to win the Semi just so we could have had Tavares vs Fall in the paint, that would have been fascinating but never mind. But I love Larkin and Micic so will be ok. Im rooting for an Efes win and also predict it too.
Euroleague has annoyed me a lot in recent years, especially with the treatment of the international Qualifiers and the ever on going closing up of the competition has been horrible to watch. When ever i sit and watch a game i seem to be debating these politics in my head and suddenly realise i havent taken in the last few minutes of play. But with the fact the clubs have voted out Jordi gives me hope they are finally going to address these issues in someway sometime soon. After all why else would they have voted him out.

I might check it out. Usually I tend to watch only the BBL and then during the playoffs the NBA when it starts getting intrested. But I have watched the occasional Euro game.
I will set it up to tape. Thanks for letting us know about it! 😊

Thank you for letting us know. I knew the Euroleague final was on today but I didn't know about the viewing times. For me it's actually better because I can watch it once the kids are in bed.
I really enjoy watching Euroleague. I like the style of basketball and the European football atmosphere. I usually watch it when it's on Freesports.
I am also annoyed by the closing off of the league, which is something some of the same clubs are trying to do in European football. It totally goes against European sporting principles and is totally unnecessary. I do like these big multi sports clubs like Real Madrid but I don't like it when they act as a cartel.
This is the fifth time that Real Madrid is in the final of both European finals, football and basketball. They are the greatest sports club in the world, surely.

Yeah i love the watching european basketball. Just watch the way Moustapha Fall was destroying people inside the other night. You just dont see things like that in the NBA anymore. Players like Tavares and Fall wouldnt be of much value in the NBA anymore but they still are needed in europe.
Yeah i find it interesting how the European Football Super League falls apart almost instantly, wide spread condemnation, prime ministers weighing in. Then a few weeks later a secret meeting takes place between euroleague clubs without Jordi present. And then a few months later Jordi is voted out. I wonder if the Euroleague has finally began to think about its image. I dont think it will ever open up again, much like the BBL too much money has been paid by clubs and owners etc that the damage is permanent. There are a few little things they could do to win the public back post Jordi. They could stop scheduling there games over the international qualifiers, it would have little to know impact on them and would go a long way. They could bin the eurocup off as well and pass the full second tier torch to the Basketball Champions League after all it is a far better format and finds a place for almost all countries including the BBL, much more inclusive and would again represent a positive step.

I do find EuroCup a bit pointless. For me Basketball Champions League is more interesting and a better format than EuroCup. I have absolutely no interest in EuroCup except to see teams joining Euroleague. I don't really like the Euroleague format. It would be better if there was more teams and they had some kind of group stage or conference system.

Agree totally Dexter. The Final Four is another one. It was great pre League format in 2016-17, but now just doesnt suit the competition anymore. I dont know what the answer is on that one because i dont think there is time for more 'best of' series in the calendar. Perhaps a 1 off neutral final following a best of 5 semi may feel a bit more appropriate and might just squeeze in.

I think the balance should be more teams, fewer league games, and more playoffs games. Still, for a neutral like me the final four is entertaining.

I usually record it so I can skip the adverts. Always preferred Euro to NBA but never knew why. Thanks to this thread now I do, style. Every day's a school day. 👍.

Did anyone else watch. I cant belive Real Madrid didnt foul at the end. 17 seconds left, 14 on the shot clock and you dont foul. The shot goes up at the very end of the shot clock and obviously theres not enough time for Real to possess the ball and the buzzer goes. What were they thinking.

Oh yeah and how good was it to see Martin Henlan carrying out the post match interviews. What a player.

I feel better now about the shambles in the closing seconds of the BBL playoff final. I always feel defensive about the BBL, thinking someone will watch a bad sequence and think it's trash. I loved this game. I always like to watch Edy Tavares dominating. The other Real Madrid centre Vincent Poirier also had a good game I thought. The last few seconds aside, what are your thoughts on why Real Madrid didn't win? I thought they played well but Efes managed to stay with them then pip them at the end. What was the difference between the teams?

What was the difference between the teams? Shane Larkin? I watched the U18 rising stars game. 15 year old Bagayoko is one to keep an eye on 👀

Yeah Shane Larkin kept them in the first half while the rest of Efes were a bit cold. Micic and Pleiss heated up in the 4th quarter. It wasnt really a classic match tbf. Its a good point about the end to the BBL final last week, that was bad but this one yesterday was probably worse.
Tavares is such a huge defensive presence inside and so is Poirier but Pleiss came up big in the 4th quarter against them. I feel Efes has more weapons offensively whilst still having the likes of Dunston and Singleton inside defensively and it showed. But overall it was just two great teams who neither could really assert themselves too much over one another, such games often come down to clutch plays and clock management and well Real as a team cooked up a real stinker of managing the last 17 seconds.
Having said that though i would like to watch that foul again at 17 seconds, being called on the floor rather than shooting for free throws. That looked very close.

So lets see if we can get the Euroleague thread catching up to a post count to that of the NBA thread lol.
Euroleague 2022/23. Euroleague have big decisions coming up, regards Russian clubs. They will probably have to bin CSKA off for another year but it will cost them. But then again arguably the Russian sanction from all the european governments are unfortunately going to hit us all a bit tbf whilst the worlds fuel supplies head in different directions. But Euroleague really doesnt need this, but with CSKA being, you know, the Army club, as desperate as they might be, the uproar would be too much.
Its not just CSKA, as far as i understand one of the 2 associate member allocations is written in as being a Russian club as well, most recently presented to Zenit. So there are in fact 2 places to replace. To review the places we know...
* 12 out of the 13 permanant clubs will be in (Real, Barca, Baskonia, Oly, Pao, Maccabi, Efes, Fener, Milan, Zalgris, Bayern, ASVEL) * ALBA Berlin will be on the 2nd of there 2 year licence * An Adriatic league team, supposedly the champion but i dont think it has to be, will probably end up with Red Star or Partizan, who ever coughs up the most money * Virtus Bologna won the Eurocup, they will be in * Monaco qualified for the Play Offs so there back in as well
And then assuming they go without the Russians as expected then 2 spots to go. Rumour has it that Eurocup runner up Bursaspor will get a wild card as the runner up is supposed to qualify providing that Monaco or UNICS didnt make the play offs and as its felt that Monaco only qualifed because the Russians were booted then it would be fair.
Then 1 more, some say Valencia, but I think they might go with both Red Star and Partizan bringing the total to 18. They will obviously only choose a club from the Eurocup, for obvious reasons.

Thanks, I will rewatch that game watching Larkin. I'm not too familiar with the Efes players. I would like it if we can keep a Euroleague chat going. I hope the Russians aren't excluded for too long but I think it's pretty certain they will be out next season.

Yeah. The Russians have been kicked from eurobasket, the world cup qualifiers, the womens world cup and almost of all of sport. The same happened to Yugoslavia for a while in the 90s. They say this conflict is going to go on for a while. I am far from an expert on this war, and at a risk of sparking a debate about the war but i cant help but think that some kind of a stalemate is forming in which the Russians are going to put all the effort into defending the territory they have gained in the Luhansk and Donbass and any kind of end depends on whether Ukraine/NATO thinking they have it in them to push them out completely. I think/hope by this time next year that deals will have been reached enough to at least let Russia rejoin the sporting community.

Yes I'm hoping for a peace deal which will have to mean Ukraine conceding some territory in the east and south, which they have already lost. Once a peace treaty is signed there should be nothing stopping them from rejoining international basketball and Euroleague. I'm not condoning what Russia have done; I just want peace and things to get back to normal, and Brittney Griner to be allowed to go home.

Russia shouldn't be allowed back into sports for as long as they are in Ukrainian territory. Which they won't be leaving for some time yet. There are rumours swirling about Putin's health too.
I know it does seem harsh but by allowing them back in you risk boycotts and it would make a complete mockery of the competition. Let's not forget about that American basketball player currently being held in Russia as well.

finally found time to watch this through - forget all those questions folk have about surprised RM did not foul near the end, but what were they thinking about in general! they let Efes have the ball for 44seconds in a 1pt game !! Efes put the ball in from their end line after RM scored - with 44seconds on the clock and they had possession from then till the buzzer. What were the coaching team and the players trying to do? Clearly a poor tactic whatever it was cause never saw the ball again for a posession.
