After the recent final and how the O2 was compared to being like an NBA game. It got me wondering if any BBL teams possible have celebrity fans at all?
I understand that the definition of a celebrity may have different meanings to some people.
But I wondered if anyone had any stories of people they seen. I once saw ex Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew at an Eagles game once.

Jamal Lascelles came to an Eagles game. In fairness he was supporting his brother. Also Ian Whyte, ex Eagle and actor.

Patrick Vieira was at the Copper Box Arena for one of London Lions's European games. I've got him as biggest celebrity name so far! He's a really good person to have as a London Lions supporter. There are 67k French people in London. If French Londoners and Crystal Palace fans know that Patrick Vieira is a London Lions fan it could attract more fans. I hope he enjoyed himself and keeps going.

I remember watching some NBA interview with the footballer Fernando Torres talking about how he also loved basketball growing up in Spain.
And now I thought wouldn't it be good if they had a celebrity guest on the BBL show at some point?
Plus a few years back I swear their was a BBL celebrity game. But I forgot what year and didn't go to that final.

I was at second one

I was at second one Thanks IRF I had a feeling it was around 2015. I wonder if the BBL would consider bringing something like this back if their looking for ideas. I mean I know the league isn't like the NBA but when you watch the NBA you see them showcasing the celebs in attendance. And I remember watching one NBA UK game many years ago on BT during time outs their was quite afew interviews showing the stars who turned out. It would be great if the BBL and club marketing departments did something similar and worked more on the BBL to Celeb link up in order to help get the game more next level. Especially at teams like London being in such a big place.

We'll have to start calling Riders "The Celebs"! That's quite a list.

I'm always dubious about celebs at the NBA games though in London - it always felt like they just wanted to be seen and wanted to hang out at a cool event, rather than being genuinely into the sport and wanting to watch the action. Maybe in some cases it was a bit of both but others definitely didn't feel like real fans of the sport.
Of course when Rodman played for the Bears that got a lot of interest, fans turning up, media attention etc. Again though, people coming to watch him who didn't normally come - to me it felt like they were the 'celebrity big brother' people coming to see 'Dennis off the telly' rather than coming along like I did thinking 'even at this age I bet he could snag 20 rebounds tonight!'
Ironically Rodman himself has commented on this in his first book - esepcially in LA, he felt all the celebs that came to the games were just a distraction to the fans and didn't have a genuine interest in the sport (save one or two e.g. Spike Lee, Jack Nicholson, etc). and he didn't approve.

Is Ovie Soko back in the UK? I think the Japanese season has finished. Is he expected to play for GB in the upcoming fixtures?
