With the off-season almost upon us I thought I recommend some basketball related viewing...
Last night I finished watching Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. It's a HBO drama (all 10 episodes available on Sky and Now) about the 1980s 'Showtime' era of the Los Angeles Lakers featuring the likes of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. It's based on the book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s by Jeff Pearlman.
It's got incredible production values and a great cast including John C. Reilly, Jason Clarke, Jason Segel, and Adrien Brody.
If you're interested here's the trailer:

This is the show that has portrayed Jerry West terribly, isn't it? And his lawyers are going after them. I must admit that put me off watching it as it sounded like they've been very disrespectful towards the Logo and fabricated massively what he was like!

Although I wouldn't say it portrays him as a terrible person, more a person who's a bag of nerves and never happy with himself. Someone whose greatest critic is himself. I actually found him quite a likeably character. But Jerry West himself clearly doesn't like the portrayal, rightly or wrongly. Larry Bird... now there's someone who's portrayed as an awful person. But it's an ensemble cast of many characters. I really enjoyed it.

I saw this advertised on Sky but I couldn't find it which suggested it was on on of their exclusive channels. Looks really good though.
I saw another documentary mini series program this morning on the Antekumpo brothers coming on Disney plus aswell.
Seems to be a lot of acting jobs and projects going on in the world of B ball right now!

Please spill who? It's not that former Raiders player who left last season for a movie deal I think he was called Prince Ibeh?

Yes, an enjoyable series with a very good cast. Bird portrayed as an utter psychopath. Conjures up the period with lashings of style and great cinematography.

Same thing with the Last Dance series though, MJ was portrayed quite badly in that at times. I feel like some of these very elite, very competitive sports people do have psychopathic tendencies but its within the context of having to win at all costs. They probably can be difficult to be around at times. You know what its like when you have a family game of Monopoly or something at christmas and there's always that one person who is overly competitive and almost spoils the fun - I could see that being Bird, MJ etc. but times about 10!

Ian Whyte (ex Eagles and England 7'1" Centre) has had a terrific acting career. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Whyte_(actor) He still gets to the occasional Eagles game.
