Whelan was 47.9% from three point range this season. Let that sink in. Unbelievable shooting accuracy.
Corey Who? No wonder he wasn't missed.

Thats an unreal percentage! How many did he shoot per game? Shooting 5 a game. So not a small sample size. He's been terrific this season. Even more incredible given he shot below 30% the last 2 seasons. He's obviously made a big step this year but shows what a difference it makes when you get the ball exactly where you want it, in space, delivered at the right height, with your feet set. It's what makes riders so good. Excellent players but a team that's better than the sum of its parts. Still all comes back to Geno for me. The way he breaks down the defence opens space for everyone else. And the fact that the first thing every team has to do is stop the Geno/Darien PnR means guys like Whelan get the looks they do. Flip side being that when Whelan, Loving and others are knocking their shots down other teams can't clog the paint and makes the PnR deadly. Almost impossible to guard that with 2 guys. So you have to decide what to give up. Whelan has been equally efficient at the rim this year too. Cant close out too hard otherwise he goes past you, and once he gets to the rim he almost always scores. That, along with a genuine stretch 4, is what's made our offence the best I think I've ever seen in the 30 years I've been watching Riders. I couldn't argue with either Pat or Geno getting the main prize but for me I'd go Geno.

If using that stat to say he should be lge MVP - it falls over a wee bit when it is pointed out he is not the hot hand from the 3pt line Hillsman gets that honour at 49.1%
