Judging from social media it looks like Wales are looking at the viability of a bbl club.
Potentially this is better than any other of the new clubs as well finally be in more than half the Britain!
Good luck to them but I imagine it'd 5 years off max

Any indication of where the team would be? Cardiff? You wouldn't want it too close to Bristol I'd have thought. But yeah, would be good to see a BBL team in Wales after all these years.

Fair point and Wrexham in the north has the same problem with Chester close by. Swansea might be a better bet with plenty of surrounding towns and villages. 80 miles to Bristol should be enough. Biggest problem I can see is the absence of Basketball infrastructure. They will truly be building from scratch.

I would say Cardiff would be a great location
Definitely far enough away from Bristol to have its own supporter base develop
Is there an NBL club in Wales?

None that I can see on the NBL website (not doing that again, what a frustrating piece of junk). Durham Wildcats were 30 miles from Eagles and had a small but raucous following but they developed from the University team. Unfortunately they became unsustainable when the Visa rules changed.

Looking at social media they are trying to put a volunteer group together to look at the viability of a BBL team in Wales At the end of the day the biggest thing they will need to find to have any chance of success will be owners/sponsors with deep pockets and in it for the long term Talk is cheap

Someone already suggested on Twitter a link with Cardiff University would work well

Looks to be a set up with the main governing body which also links in well with the proposed welsh national league. Great to see the Welsh striding to improve the sport.

Talk is cheap. No venue, no sponsors, no money, no players ๐ I don't see why a small market would jump straight into the BBL, be far better playing a few seasons in the NBL.

Cardiff tried back in the 90s.
There was an NBL side and then there was some big talk about going into the BBL - my memory is a bit hazy on this, but I can vaguely recollect an ill-fated exhibition game which may have given everyone a reality check and caused the backers to disappear.
Bit like when Coventry Crusaders were strongly considering a move up from NBL Conference into the BBL, but had to withdraw when there were difficulties with the Coventry SkyDome. I was one spectator there amongst a near-full house pre-season who had to leave very early in proceedings when the ice rink beneath the playing surface meant it was too dangerous to continue.

I think the obvious choice would be Cardiff being the nations capital and having already got a WBBL team. But it's again a case of giving it the backing and if people are willing to make it happen.
Seeing how they seem to enter Basketball Wales team in the BBL Trophy the past few years. Clearly Welsh Basketball have some intrest in the BBL pie. Although looking at their results clearly the standard is way below the BBL since they were easily beaten.
Maybe if they had an envisionary like a Mr Vince Maculey who wanted a new project perhaps someone should send this his way.

I love the thought of Vince in charge of a Welsh BBL team - think of all those dragon pyjamas heโd be wearing !

Yeah, Vince would and should be involved. He has knowledge and it could be beneficial to a new Franchise
