Hiya just found this forum, Tees Valley Mohawks fan/volunteer, I use to help the club out in the glory years of the the late 90s early 2000,then work and life kept me away from the club for many years, now that I have took early retirement I can once again watch games and help out again!

Welcome Tony this is a new forum that was recently set up by members of the old board after the old one became less about B ball and was more like a daily soap opera between 2 idiots.
So far this new board is a much better place for basketball discussion and is continuing to grow thanks to Sam H who'd idea it was to set this up.
Having people from the other British leagues as well as the BBL is always great to see and spread awareness about this board as well.

Welcome Tony, glad you could join us!
I remember those old days when it was always a 3 horse race to everything between Teesside, Worthing and Plymouth, then later Reading. Some great battles back then. I'm thinking back to the Jason Swaine era I suppose.

Yes we had a fantastic side with Jason plus EJ Harrison, Ralph Bucci, Neil Hopper, Steve Butler amongst other, probably the best side outside the BBL 😀🏀

League was an awful lot better then than it is today in my opinion. Some D1 teams then probably better than the bottom half BBL teams these days.

Or just better quality smaller squads?

Player coach, I wasn’t at the club at the time, I have been away from the club for many years due to work, I have took early retirement now back at the club as a fan/volunteer, I believe he was a good coach.

Bucci was unbelievable for NBL level back then. He and Alfredo Ott stand out as 2 players you just wonder how they weren't playing at a higher level, but great to watch. I think Ott did go on to play in Spain or somewhere for 6 figure salaries though.

When Ralph signed for us a week earlier he had played in a college cup final in front of 20000 people lol he was a fantastic player and such a nice person loved chatting to him, he his a ambassador for us now so hopefully within a couple of years we can see some fantastic players come over and play for the Mohawks

Sorry I missed this, Mohawks were a good team then. I remember Bucci and EJ being quality and always gave Eagles a tough game. Was also an easy travel for away games 😉.

Yes, I remember the NBL Conference days, with Worthing, Plymouth, Teeside, Coventry, Crystal Palace. Just as Solent did a year or so back, some of the NBL sides could knock off BBL teams. One season Palace, and possibly Coventry, got through to the National Cup semis. And I seem to recall Neil Fingleton may have played for Teeside when only 15?
