Be very very surprised if Nix lose. After Friday squad is still looking to cement a starting 5 with Atwood coming good near the end. Not certain but looks like Ben Thomas is putting his faith in Cam Holden starting there and Cam Christon perhaps losing his chance to be MVP as 6th man again included from the start.

Looking forward to Eagles Vs Glads. Glads should be stronger on paper, but Eagles seen to have had their number recently. Murray seems to be one of the few coaches in the league that Steutel can outsmart tactically. Suspect we'll see JWH chasing Whelan around for the whole game, and maybe see Spencer starting over Llewellyn.

What an absolute battle from both teams tonight! Although it is early days in the season, it looks we might be contenders for silverware this season.
Although we recorded back to back wins last week I wasn't entirely convinced we were going to be able to beat the Gladiators. Especially with some of the key players they managed to retain from last season. However as the game went on I started to realise we were better then I expected and that the game was ours for the taking.
For the Eagles, we made some smart, risky plays that paid off well and we capitalised on the Gladiators mistakes and made them pay. I felt the refs were a lot tougher on Gladiators mind and the foul trouble helped. But overall after slow 3 quarters in last week's game vs Sharks tonight we hit the ground running.
For Gladiators they put up a strong fight and pushed us to the end. But what costed them was the amount of careless offensive inbounds they threw in only for the Eagles to intercept and capitalise on because they failed to communicate with each other.
That and some of the clumsy fouls they picked up like number 11's clothesline off the ball in the 2nd quarter which happened because he was playing to fast at unnecessary points in the game.
In the end though I'm glad the Eagles have gone 3-0 so far and I hope having the rest of the week to rest doesn't see us lose this good rhythm.
Although looking at our upcoming schedule in the programme later this month we seem to have 4 games between the 11th-18th October 2024. 3 of those games are away including our 1st ENBL match over in Poland which I imagine will take its toll on the team.
That being said these early Trophy wins will have helped support us in this competition for when the fatigue or injuries do catch up to us. But for tonight I glad I got to see us cliche an exciting victory in a truly entertaining game.

Nix fought out a bruising win against a Mcr team playing a bit rough. Just look at the foul count and they were the ones that were called. Standard of umpires isn’t getting any better I see

Entertaining stuff at the VMAwith some decent defending from Eagles at last. Llewelyn yet to impress and DD struggled, but no complaints with impressively 6 Eagles in double figures.

Holden was an absolute beast last night but is a massive flopper 😛

That's the right amount of minutes for Defoe to be playing each game though if he can play well 13 minutes ish Impact player from the bench

Another win for the Grit n Grind Eagles. 6 players in double figures, JWH leading the defence and Mike Okaru looks a real find - he could be this seasons Rideau. Eagles did a phenomenal job taking the 3s away from Glads/Whelan. My mate came with me last night as Mrs D44 was unavailable and when I told him Whelan was probably he best 3 shooter in the league he couldn't believe it "he's barely touched the ball" he said - exactly. Rookie PG looks very uncomfortable still, and Neighbour was frankly embarrassing last night. The game was far too fast and physical for either of them to have any impact. As for Glads they seem to have recruited a very high profile team with lots of size but coach was them trying to play like a seconds aisle Flyers, there no finesse there whatsoever.

The PG position is a concern and. neighbour, the less said the better Nevertheless they still won. Llewellyn brought the ball up the court. Obviously he's supposed to do a bit more than that but it's still a task he's doing. This kind of fast end to end game is what Neighbour is least suited to, so it's horses for courses. He was better in the previous game. He needs time to make a shot or pick out a pass. He's not built to run up and down. He'll have his moments, maybe in ENBL. The rest of the Eagles squad play that quick game very well. It was a good tactic against a bigger Caledonia team.
