About a year ago and during the Olympics their seems to be beef between US Atheletics Athlete Noah Lyles and the USA basketball team over his comments on the NBA champions claiming themselves to be world champions.
Seems like since USA won the gold last week both sides are still taking shots at one another and it seems to be trending around social media .
I wondered what people on here make of it. I watched a video of what he said below about how he expected USA to win the Gold but the other teams stood up to them and didn't back down which I thought was a fair comment which I kind of agree with.
While he respects the USA Team here I can't imagine he will be invited to the next All Star celebrity game any time soon.

I think he's a bit of an arrogant prat, but I do agree with him - said it many times before, how can they be 'world' champions when that's a tournament played every 4 years that even the USA didn't win last time? It's stupid. What is wrong with being NBA champions?!

I do think it’s funny that they got offended because he said the NBA Champion shouldn’t call themselves “World Champions” and now they think they’ve proved him wrong by Team USA winning Gold at the Olympics? That has absolutely nothing to do with what he was talking about

Exactly, it's really dumb, same with MLB and the World Series. It would only make sense to call NBA teams World Champions if they were to say, compete against teams from around the World in a Club World Cup, there is a tournament like it already and American teams have been in it but just not NBA teams. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_FIBA_Intercontinental_Cup

I assume they refer to themselves in that sense because the feeling is there's no other team from another league around the world that would be able to beat them either, so if you win the NBA then by default you're the best 'club' team in the world, but again it makes no sense since there is an international world champion!

And even then it might still be a blowout. Back to Noah Lyles though if he hadn't had any glory in the Atheltics the other week. He might have looked foolish but then atleast people then would know who he is even if it as a guy that is known for having beef with USA basketball.

I think its hilarious they get offended by him when all he's really done is tell the truth.
He hypes himself up a lot, and I think it's just to motivate himself, but in the cold light of day he's actually quite respectful and I have no problem with Lyles at all.
NBA players need a dose of reality. And by the way Germany are still world champions...
