Companies House is showing on July 7th 2024 a new company was incorporated called Surrey Basketball Ltd. The two directors listed are Dan Clark and Jodie Jackson. The nature of the business is listed as "activities of sports clubs." I'm sure we all know all about Dan, but as a reminder he served as General Manager of Surrey Scorchers and Surrey Storm (NSL) last year. Jodie has been working as Head of Professional Sports at Surrey Sports Park for a little while. If I may begin the wild speculation, there have been the (as yet unsubstantiated) rumours that SSP may pull out of the professional sports team game this Summer (of course, remembering that the new pro Netball setup does not included Surrey Storm). Is this a sign of basketball people at Surrey trying to keep something alive? If so, I'm intrigued the company is clearly "basketball" as opposed to a name that could also encompass netball ... Or could this be nothing and the company is just intended to run local basketball youth camps and the like?

Whatever the immediate plans it's something positive for Surrey Unless they have a minor fortune to spend I imagine it's for kids basketball to start with at least

I would say the most likely reason for this company being incorporated is for the continuation of Surrey Scorchers, the professional basketball team. Surrey Storm are almost definitely finished. Surrey is now within the catchment area for London Pulse (the Copper Box Arena team owned by the owners of Harlequins) and there are now no Surrey Storm teams. This is different to Team Bath which will continue to have teams up to under 23. So, it looks like we could be back up to 7 teams.

This certainly sounds like a rare piece of good news.
It would be a real shame for Surrey not to have a team next season as there's a clear appetite for the game in Guildford. It's a pretty big catchment area and a large town that doesn't have an established football team.
Fingers crossed for a positive announcement.

Starting a new limited company is positive but big jump for that company to get the funds to be competing this season I think
But you never know

Starting a new limited company is positive but big jump for that company to get the funds to be competing this season I think But you never know Yeah, i like the positivity around it but unless they have some investors lined up if the Sports Park / Uni are pulling out financially then that's quite a bit of financial losses that they have been soaking up that will now fall on their hands. Also assuming they are being given facility access for free (perhaps some sponsorship in kind) otherwise that's a new direct cost they wouldn't have had to worry about previously. Unless they are moving to the local leisure centre where Guildford Heat use to play??? Spectrum???
