Agreed - we matched them for 18min and then the superior size and depth of talent kicked in. After a unusually slow start JJ got going but all too little too late. At least we’ve got the Northern Lights to entertain us tonight !

I could tell you if the half court call was correct or not from the sky reply - oh oops they didn't show a reply. Why would you when the commentator has just said - turnover, Defoe has stepped on the sideline. Another incident where shouted at the tv to tell our pal he was a clown - pay attention and you could commentate on the fact the ref clearly signalled half court violation and restarted in eagles backcourt with a lions ball and 14sec - not where Defoe was in front court and if he had stepped on line would have been a backcourt lions and 24sec.
Cynic in me says director never did a reply incase it showed Lions benefited from a wrong call. Who knows call may have been good, may have been bad - only certainty was commentator was wrong.
PS - yes been great spending last 30min in the garden observing the greens and reds of northern lights above us

The league desperately needs to look at the refereeing over the summer. McDonald (who always seems to think 3,000 people have paid to watch him make calls), Dodds and Unsworth did their best to destroy that game tonight. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE THE PLAYOFFS YOU FUCKING CRETINS.
Didn't swing the result of the game, I'm looking forward to 777 going pop and losing this juggernaut team.

Well that wasn't very fun to watch. This is why I watch Newcastle in the BBL and London in EuroCup. London are far too good for this league.

Even as an Eagles fan I think I must have been one of the few people who didn't take much of an issue with the refs last night. I actually think they called the game fairly. Yes they missed some calls which is always expected. But I thought it was balanced and they let the teams play. Compared to last week where it seemed like the refs didn't know what they were calling half the time or they were missing the most obvious calls. I can certainly say Eagles losing the game last night was nothing to do with the officials. But more due to the fact Lions were far to good and the Eagles had a poor 2nd half showing which has happened everytime we played London at home this season.

Todd and Azania might as well be London Lions tv, it’s all they talk about So if we're looking for any small bits of good news out of all this mess the chances of having to listen to those two again is negligible. We could even get back to in house, sitting courtside commentary, good, bad and sometimes biased but at least they'll know what's going on!

Hopefully we’ll get some decent commentators for games 2 and 3! At least we ‘re not going to the Copperbox on an aggregate 2 game semi !

I'm not moaning about the refs because they were biased against Newcastle. Both teams were on the end of some calls. My issue is how they blew for every single fucking thing that happened. Sooooo many stoppages, it's supposed to be fucking playoff basketball. London players were just laughing by the end at how many pointless calls were being made. Ian McDonald and his main character syndrome should be banished to the Scottish regional leagues. The guy literally turns up to every arena under the impression that everyone has paid their money to come and watch him blow his whistle. The guy is a clown. That game had no flow whatsoever last night, all because those 3 decided it was going to be that way.

So, firstly, no complaints about the result. Eagles more than lived with £ondon for 2 quarters but after that £ions’ quality, depth, length and defensive intensity were all at a different level. I am left feeling conflicted - it’s terrific to see probably the best team ever assembled in the UK one last time in Newcastle, but the complete commercial unsustainability of £ions’ financial model, and the impact that has had on the league this season, sticks in my throat. That is no reflection on the £ions players (although they celebrated like cocks in the latter part of the game) but more a major gripe I have with what 777 have done. If we are about to witness the demise of 777 I won’t shed a tear.
The refs were picky and called too much, but it was a physical game so both teams were not blameless in that respect.
The crowd was large and load. Congratulations to the Eagles organisation on almost filling the arena on one week’s notice. A proper club being run in a financially astute and sustainable manner.
Now let’s beat ‘em in £ondon tomorrow!

Watching last night was like watching my grandson's u12 team play the u14s. We were done by superior and taller players. Absolutely no complaints about the game, Lions are a class above. Points about the reffing crew already made, it was never a 52 foul game.
As for the commentary team that's what happens when 777 control the league and own one of the teams. I turned the commentary off.

I disagree with allot of what they want to do. If you want to go back to an semi pro league fine, but that is never going to attract more investment

If you want to go back to an semi pro league fine, but that is never going to attract more investment 777 have now appointed bankruptcy advisers Off the back of being accused of securing the money they spent fraudulently This isn't a case of not wanting the benefits of the investment they brought in - it's a case of it actually being financially viable and sustainable John The numbers never added up. There was never a remotely viable business plan here London Lions were just used as a front for a Ponzi scheme to loan money in This wasn't investment. It was just part of a much larger scale con trick Like I've always promised - it will all make a good Netflix documentary soon enough Probably enough for 6 x hour long episodes

I disagree with allot of what they want to do. If you want to go back to an semi pro league fine, but that is never going to attract more investment I would say even before 777 I wouldn't call the league a semi pro league. And apart from the Lions dominating their plan to strengthen the rest of the BBL has not worked. Yes the league has now gone stateside but have they really attracted any new investors? Am I seeing more celebrity fans at the games or a race to want to buy Manchester or Plymouth? Or even more talk in the media about Basketball outside the NBA? To me the worst case scenario which is the Lions being to powerful to make the league competitive has came true. And sadly last night I saw that with how dull the game came in the 2nd half. The answers to this is clearly no which shows they plan to grow the league through one juggernaut team is failing and does not work. The only way it could have worked would have been if you tried to move rest of the league with the Lions. Cause all they have really done is basically enter a Ferrari car in a race against land rovers, Ford focuses and Renaults. Yet expected the rest of the cars in the race to somehow beat the Ferrari car. Despite not having the money, pit crew or the mechanical advantages the Ferrari car comes with?

Sadly he Ferrari has run out of gas and 777 can’t make the HP payments.

The actions of 777 have not only wrecked the comptitive balance of the league, but have tained the image so much that as an entity the BBL is now, irreversably, toxic. It is highly unlikely that the BBL, or any revised/relaunched entity would be able to attract any viable comercial backing for many years.

Am I not right in thinking 777 actually went ahead with buying Lions despite the pandemic
That alone should have been enough to warn us this doesn't make commercial sense
