As much as I want to believe we can won this series, I think Lions will be way to strong for us to overcome in a best of 3 series. Although if we want any chance we need to atleast beat them at home.
The way we adapted our starting line up against the Gladiators and how we rotated I think was what worked well against the Gladiator. That and the Gladiators looked lost and without much of comeback strategy on game 2.
Against the Lions though I wonder how we will adapt our game plan. From what I have seen with the Lions I think defensively we're not going to be able to stop them on the boards.
So I think the key to beating them will be to out score and make it a shoot out and play fast. However to play that game our guys are going to need to have good fitness levels and avoid foul trouble if we are going to be able to play that game.
I hope they send some competent and non corrupt officials to this one.

Interesting scheduling for the London/Newcastle series… Newcastle host game 1 and London host game 2, as already discussed on this forum, but London then host game 3 (on Tuesday) if needed too. I thought London were avoiding unnecessarily hiring the Copper Box for a game 3 fixture, but looks like the decision was simply a venue availability one instead.

I'm also suprised that despite coach Youngblood allegedly putting his hands on another players neck at the end of a game a few weeks ago nothing has been done or mentioned about an investigation. If this game does go to a Game 3 and by some miracle the Eagles win I wonder if the Eagles would return to Newcastle or find some way to stay down there until Sunday after the finals. Whilst I like the series format I think selling a game 3 must be difficult. Like for Sharks the other day they had 24 hours to attract fans to a game 3 at Cannon Hall after beating Riders. That might have been risky for a club wanting to make a profit perspective.

Copper Box Arena has been booked for netball on Friday 10th May for months. The game is being broadcasted by Sky Sports so there's no way it was going to be moved.
I'm glad Eagles get home court advantage first. Lions players are probably thinking about who they'll be playing for next season. Maybe they're worried they won't receive another paycheck from their employer. Chances are they won't. Has their national insurance been paid or will they be getting a big bill for that? Quick possibly. All this worry, doubt and suspicion isn't conducive to a good performance.

If the Eagles want any chance then they will need to win game one tonight as they're is no way we will be able to go and win 2 games down at the Copperbox against this team. Ideally 777 trouble aside a dream scenario would be Lions to be complacent and slip in game 1. Comeback to bite us in game 2 and then become complacent again in game 3.

Referees are absolutely killing Newcastle v Ldn here. Absolutely dire Agreed, 29 fouls in a half, mostly ticky tacky. C'mon, let them play! There's some fantastic basketball when they let them play.

30 seconds in and another ticky tacky, this is ridiculous. Lions on a different level though.

Todd and Azania might as well be London Lions tv, it’s all they talk about by this stage in the season - I've tuned out from that aspect of them I will admit at shouting back at the tv and telling them they are idiots and need to learn the rules and pay attention more - for example as McGill walks out the arena they started chattering away about clapping at the refs about shouting/talking at them loudly. Meanwhile those of us who were paying attention knew he as soon as the ref indicated unsportsman at the half way line he was gone as he had a tech in the first half. Decent commentators would have called that at that moment, not 2nd guessed a minute later why he was walking out.

Just home from the Nix game. Bit to close for comfort from a Nix perspective. Nix just had a little too much in the end, but felt like they didn’t hit top gear.
Must say tho the Sharks support was probably the best travelling support I have witnessed in 3 years….

Wasn't the best complete performance fron Nix but again its another win.

Well if you asked me for the Eagles the playoffs was pretty much the equivalent if Game of Thrones Season 8. Last week we defeated the blue army from North of the border. Then went into what was a terrible season finale tonight against the team from the capital.
Don't get me wrong we knew from the start this was going to be a tough match up but I was hoping for maybe a 10-15 point loss not 31 point arse kicking.
For the first half we actually looked good and looked like we took Lions completely by suprise with our fast pace and how ill disciplined they were. I'm not going to lie some of those players were lucky not to pick up more Technicals for their reactions to calls tonight.
But in the 2nd half of the game Lions came out more determined and ready to take us to the cleaners and boy did they run away with it. And as for us we just could not hit a barn door no matter how many looks we had at the basket.
As for the officials if I'm honest I didn't have to much of an issue with them and felt they called it consistent for both sides. Definatley alot better then the 3 they sent to the VMA last week. The only call that suprised me was the backcourt in the 1st half when Eagles stole the ball which I wasn't sure on.
The Eagles had Ricky Mcgill carrying us in the first half but unfortunately him and the rest of the team struggled and it was painful to watch. To me the real MVP was the fans who sat through to the end and support the lads despite how painful it was to see us get beaten so badly. If it wasn't the final game of the season I think I would have called it a night early myself.
All I can say is congratulations Lions and goodluck to Nix or Sharks in the final. As despite our all star squad we clearly don't have the capabilities to beat this Lions team.
Especially now with game 2 and 3 at the Cooperbox it wouldn't suprise me if we decide to get stuck in traffic or miss our flights on purpose to avoid playing the Lions again.
I did wonder on my way in if the guy sat on the end of the Lions bench in casual clothes and a cap was Josh Wander? If it was at the end of the Lions bench before tip sat quietly alone whilst the team was off to the locker room.
If it was I hope he feels guilty for turning this league into a one-sided snooze fest given how dull that 2nd half was to watch as an Eagles fan or neutral. As much as I would hate to see a franchise suffer. I look forward to hearing all the "Where's the money gone?" Chants next season if the 777 ship ends up sinking.
But despite the result im sure when the dust settles the Eagles will look back on this season as a entertaining season at the very least and I have certainly enjoyed our European adventure this season which I think has certainly made a difference to our fan experience from an enjoyment presepective this year.
Hopefully now next season we will learn from this re-sign most this squad and come back better and stronger next season.
