I'm expecting a good game tonight hopefully. If Whitfield is unavailable I hope we have that number 32 back again in his place as he was a crowd pleaser last time.
As for the opposition according to Google their 15th and 2nd bottom in the Polish league so in theory you would consider them not to be very strong.
Although that being said it could be similar to 18th place in the Barclays Premier League playing 3rd in the EFL League 1 and be a low placed team in a tough league.
Hopefully we finish strong and can get ourselves a good draw for the next round of Europe.

Have Newcastle signed a new player? Not sure if it was the men’s or women’s team but believe they have picked up a new import.

What a day for JWH. Named in the GB squad of 24 and named match day captain.
Good to see Neighbour back and playing like he has a point to prove, which he has.

48-44 Eagles at the half. The Poles have come to play, a very entertaining game.

An impressive win, and encouraging to have all our players on court for the first time this season ? Even with the still to impress Scott, it bodes well for the remaining BBL and ENBL campaigns...

For a team that was 2nd bottom of the Polish League they certainly gave us good test tonight. Their number 25 was deadly inside and made hardwork for us despite the foul trouble they occurred later on.
I felt we got lucky not to blow that one in the 4th Quarter as you could tell that was a team fighting for their ENBL playoff life.
For the Eagles we seemed to run our bench for alot of tonight but the team stepped up considering the absence of Darius Defoe who I was gutted to see rested tonight. Although I think Larry unfortunately picked up a knock early on as he didn't feature in the 2nd half.
Will Neighbour who returned tonight certainly responded and looked determine to slience some of the haters with his performance tonight and really got stuck in and I was impressed.
As for the officials I thought they were mostly good and the unsportman on Whitfield I think was warranted but the one on Johnson should have only been a common foul. And I did question how on earth their team was able to get away with mounting JJ like an animal on Discovery channel was not called a foul was beyond me.
At the same time I think Mr Stetuel got off lightly with the T'd and must have had some of Coach Murray rub off on him from Friday night.
As in the 1st half as he certainly did not hold back on the F bombs in what I can only describe as R-Rated Stetuel. I reckon if it weren't for the Polish ref being near him he probably wouldn't have gotten away with it. Thankfully we had no hoops 4 health and many kids in the audience that could hear him except the stand behind the benches.
Overall it was nice to see us end this European group with 5 wins for 7 and being undefeated at home for the group stages. According to the pre match programme which had the stipulations in it we should be facing the Bakken Bears from Denmark in the next round if I'm correct.

Excellent result. ZG may not be high in their league but Poland is a good standard and well supported

Good win by Eagles. They have a chance in this competition, and I’d expect them to go further than Bristol.
Didn’t think much of the opponents. The standard of the ENBL is surprising poor. It has made me realise was level the BBL is at, and it’s pretty positive. I think most teams in the BBL could have won that game tonight.
Zielona Gora 2nd bottom of Polish league. Top of that league is Anwil Wloclawek, who Caledonia beat earlier in the season in the Europecup. 9th is Start Lublin, who Bristol beat by 20points away from home in Poland.
I believe tonight’s result means Newcastle have to play Bakken next (could be wrong), and if so, that will be a big step up in opposition compared to tonight.

The quarter finals are over 2 legs with an aggregate score. Newcastle Eagles have Bakken Bears, whilst Bristol Flyers have Šiauliai. Neither British team should be considered favourites to progress.

Away from results or success
Is Eagles venture into Europe proving worthwhile from the supporter angle?
What kind of home crowds are Eagles getting for the European games?
Is it impacting BBL attendances at all?

Is it impacting BBL attendances at all? To be honest we haven't had packed out crowds but I think it has been a success. We have played in Europe and had a fair crowd in without breaking the bank. And I could see us playing in this league in future seasons I hope. Although we haven't announced fixtures I have looked on the ENBL website and it says... Bakken@Eagles Friday 1st March 2024 Eagles@Bakken Wednesday 13th March 2024. Saliu@Flyers Thursday 7th March 2024 Flyers@Saliu not yet announced.

Is it impacting BBL attendances at all? Definitely worthwhile as far as I’m concerned, and although one can question the quality in ENBL the viewing numbers on the YouTube feeds are massive compared with the BBL so I suspect it does the club no harm in terms of profile & helps the players’ profiles too. Financially I suspect it is washing its face at best. Home crowds have been fair but not full, and the biggest miss in revenue terms seems to be the corporate seats which are certainly less full - that will need to be a priority if Eagle’s enter again. But the arena hasn’t been empty & was fairly noisy last night when the chips were down. It’s certainly not adversely affecting Friday evening BBL attendances which (apart from Thursday games) have been pretty strong.

To be honest if the ENBL schedule is true and we play Bakken at home on a Friday night then I can see that one being hugely in crowd numbers and in theory should be sold out. With it being the 1st leg as well we atleast also get to start off the game being 0-0 regardless what happens which is also I incredible. And will definately be coach Steutels biggest Eagles game to date if not the biggest for the fans in a number of seasons. Having looked Bakken up today they are currently 1st in the Danish league and we will certainly have our work cut out for us. Although since both teams finished their respective ENBL groups 5-2 I like to think we will give them a test atleast and it should be an exciting and competitive match up. If we can atleast win the first leg at home or it be close come the end of the game then I will be happy.

Away from results or success Is Eagles venture into Europe proving worthwhile from the supporter angle? What kind of home crowds are Eagles getting for the European games? Is it impacting BBL attendances at all? I've really enjoyed it and hope the club enter again next season. It's been fun to see different teams here rather than the same 9 BBL teams several times a season. It's also been interesting to see the different styles of play and how that meshes with the BBL style. Most games have had around 1,000-1,500 in on a midweek night, so I'd consider that a success. It's very much the hard-core of the support so still makes for a good atmosphere, as everyone knows what's going on. It'd be good to see the ENBL expanded to allow a couple more BBL teams to enter, as it would be good to see other fanbases get a shot at it too.

Also great to have Jeff and Dave commentating - the combination of Jeff’s detailed comments and Dave’s tactical insights are so much better than the bland BBL guys
