Big match up at Bristol, eagles need the win to get to 2-1 in the group and then it’s winner takes all against Riders, pickup and L and that game becomes a damp squib

This should be an exciting game and one which the Riders fans will he watching in anticipation. Wouldn't suprise me if Rob was doing the commentary again as well for this since he will be most likely be tuning in for his scouting report anyway.
I think a shorthanded Eagles Team against a Bristol team on their day will struggle against the Flyers. So I'm hoping we have atleast one of Josh and Whitfield back if not both as we definatley need numbers right now.
Without a deeper bench I think its possible but its going to be tough unless the Flyers have another shocking day like they did against Leicester or decide to give up on the Trophy since they lost one already and know they have got London yet to face as well and expect that game to be an automatic loss as well.
But win or lose I like especially at home I can't imagine them taken on that attitude going into this.

Tight game so far with Flyers and Eagles 45-44 in favour of Bristol. Both teams seem fairly evenly matched and I'm impressed at our resolve so far. I hope we can pull away and get the better of Bristol in the 3rd Quarter.
Although I can't help but feel the comms are slightly biased towards the Flyers tonight and routing for them but their entertaining. The bloke in the 2nd Quarter said he was going to call the fire brigade then the electrician when we were raining 3's. I wonder how long before he says he's going to call Ghost Busters next.
Hope for a good 2nd half and Eagles can look to set up the perfect Riders vs Eagles road to Birmingham showdown for next week at home.

Wow what a tense match, with only an effective 6 man rotation. Congratulations Eagles, and let’s get a few players back for the Riders quarter final.

Well just when you thought we were down and out we somehow managed to pull away with the victory. Despite the turnovers and mistakes I was impressed with how we performed given our short roster.
MVP tonight was definitely Larry though as I felt his sniper steals were the difference maker for us winning that one. Was the victory well, no but was it deserved in the end, definately. And now I can safely say and look forward to an Eagles vs Riders winner goes to Birmingham showdown!
I hope now we can enjoy this win tonight and then get ready to push Leicester next week when we are in front of the Sky cameras. However if we are going to win that one we will need to bring the same grit and determination as we did tonight and less turnovers if we want to be victorious. But for now atleast I think I'm going to enjoy this one.

Win or bust v Riders, I'm looking forward to it.

Have you noticed that Lions nearly always win, but nearly always only win by about 5-12 points? They hardly ever seem to blow anyone away with 20, 30 point routs. Any suggestions why this is and how they still seem to guarantee victory despite the games being fairly close in the end?

Yeah, but then why don't they win more games by a mile?

Why use 4th gear when you only need 3rd gear to win ?

cause when you go to 8 through 12, they are not way ahead of the other squads - and the coach spreads the minutes so much that 1 though 6 (and often 7 and 8 as well) play a lot less minutes than the equivalents in other teams. I'm sure if they ran some of the starters at 32+ min you would see larger gaps in the results

This is what I'm talking about. Lions are using 10 players. The other teams are using 6 or 7 players. Lions players probably aren't even tired. I'm not sure what the solution is, but it's not just that Lions have better players, they have more players. It's ridiculous. Lions have too many players and the other teams don't have enough. It's not fair.

Two close games, great to see. London have shown they can just step up and do enough, good habit to get into, but Manchester had the chance to get something out of that, only themselves to blame, bit wasteful at times.

Saw a stat for the Eurocup that showed London are the 2nd best rated team in the competition for 4th quarter efficiency. If the BBL produced a similar stat I believe you would find London top of the list. Apart from them being a team of very talented individuals, they are extremely well coached, and play late game situations as good as any team I’ve watched at any level. This game was tied with 2.30 left on the clock. They just know how to win. Tough D, listening to the coach and execute what he draws up. You’ll find if they need a score they will mostly likely run a play for Olaseni, as he is one of their most efficient scorers. I haven’t enjoyed watching a team in the BBL as much as I am this London team. And if you haven’t already, I urge you to try and catch one of their Eurocup games on TNT, as they seem to have a “Eurocup” gear. Nwaba looking like quite the signing and a good cover/replacement for Dekker.

I wonder does anyone think the officials tend to be a lot nicer when your team is shorthanded. With the Eagles running a six man rotation one of the things that worries me in games in foul trouble.
However in the last 2 games we haven't managed to have anyone foul out? I suppose we could just be playing softer or smarter defence but it is something I have been wondering.

I don’t think that was the case with Manchester last night. Short handed and got into all kinds of foul trouble towards the end as you’d expect. Despite this they did manage it quite well and played a good game all things considered.
