Interesting article but does it really stick? Are there actually any verified examples of current 777-backed companies trading insolvently or BBL / London Lions staff not being paid on time? Fair question but not really how these things work. I’m not sure people on a message board for a fairly niche sport would even have that kind of evidence. And it’s normally suppliers that start getting paid late first not staff. Mostly though, with a business like this you don’t find the evidence until it’s too late. The money’s there until it’s not. I’ve said before though, check out their glass door reviews. Few tell tale signs in there.

While nothing says quality source like a Reddit post from a burner account, I did think it was interesting that shortly after seeing this thread, the following post went up on the ever-deserted r/BritishBasketball: www.reddit.com/r/BritishBasketball/comments/14u4hvw/the_london_lions_should_not_be_the_gold_standard/Extract:"I understand that the London Lions have the backing of foreign investment and an NBA player, but the running of the organization is abysmal. Despite being the league's current champion and the most likely British team to compete in Euro League in the near future, the team has a very difficult time paying its employees who work 10hrs+ on game days. For an example, the Lions won the BBL finals on May 14, but the organization has still been unable to pay some of its workers. To my knowledge, some employees haven't been paid for nearly three months."The poster's claimed source is a "close relation" of theirs but no further information is given. Probably nothing, but as I said, interesting timing.

I saw the reddit post and it's making me a bit nervous as a Lions fan.
Obviously we don't know the reliability of the poster, but I'll be interested to see if the same game day helpers are about at the beginning of next season, I definitely recognised a lot of the same faces throughout last season.

Are game day staff employees of Lions though? They'll be self employed day rate staff or via an agency surely. Probably nothing to do with Lions.

Interesting they use Reddit to post such information.
Hardly a beacon of activity, would a credible source not use twitter or even here, if they had genuine info?

The only thing that sprung to mind was the circus Plymouth was running afew years ago with those Aussie blokes at the helm. Only the difference is the actual players on the court were suffering as players were said to be showing up to practice hungry having not eaten in days.

People who have evidence won’t post it for fear of not getting work again. Reddit is a popular site so the British basketball sub might not be popular but the site itself is. Anyway. Go find a match official that does London games. Or actually any of them as they all have a group chat and share who the problem payers are.

So London Lion coach leaves for a unnamed NBA team just ahead of a Eurocup campaign all of a sudden and a few weeks from that bombshell of a piece about 777.
Seems the wheels are coming off. What about Manchester, Plymouth? Will they really field a squad this season. Will Lions really return to glory. So the coach leaves but that roster stays? How does that work?
Shambles.
