The only place online where the negative outweighs anything. 6 miles seperate the current venue with the new one. Im glad we have so many experts in local geography for glasgow and east kilbride from across the bbl. Having listened to the interview he done and had a nosey at his other businesses i dont think its pie in the sky at all. Yes we have seen a lot lf false dawns in the bbl but it does seem some fans of teams don't like when others are doing well or have ambition. Suppose it is a wait and see Most of us probably haven’t been to Glasgow and have no idea of the size of the city or how easy or quick it is to get around. It think it might be smaller and easier to get around than many of us imagined.

This is exciting news but to be honest I am not totally convinced the owner isn’t a bit Walter Mitty. Just reminds me of Gretna in football and there are several others like that. I hope I am wrong but just alarm bells ringing on several fronts. My guess is the small arena becomes the arena and the 6k never sees the light of day the small arena is a temp thing. I would be 2nd guessing on how it is going to fit in - so not to confuse matters, wont comment on that part incase someone takes it as gospel. The rest though - not sure on the Walter Mitty and Gretna stuff comments. The Franchise owners have purchased the facility in EK where all this is happening. That money is spent. They have had architects and design folk involved for months - and the planning application was lodged with SLC in December and is on the public access planning site. More money spent. The timescale looks like cause they need to make changes to existing internal walls and rooflines to make what was a couple of 'warehouse' style spaces previously used for different leisure purposes (like the airspace trampoline park that is now shut and cleared) into a larger unit rather than 2 units. The BBL CEO tweeted some footage from inside - along with what is in his video and in the planning doc, looks like a bit of digging out to level the internals of the two spaces. The drawings show a U shaped seating area - there is a square at the open end, looks like that is the seats that don't get pulled out if its a concert? (their plans are concerts held there as well not just sport). publicaccess.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/online-applications/files/9279BA7F72E028A3F210C3FE13048811/pdf/P_22_1798-PROPOSED_GA_PLAN_LEVEL_00_WAREHOUSE-5294344.pdfAssumption is that arena space will be three courts in size as the announcement talks of a 5 court venue. Part of the planning application is building an extension to the current buildings - and in there will be the two training halls as well as a wing with 4 badminton courts publicaccess.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/online-applications/files/0194C7E029749E2E0B84A431DE8DBEEB/pdf/P_22_1798-PROPOSED_GA_PLAN_TRAINING_HALLS-5294349.pdfall docs for this application are here: publicaccess.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=RNB3JNOPM4G00cause I am old and remember the days of Coasters, Meadowbank and Forum in Scotland all getting decent crowds for Team Solripe and MIM while Paisley filled a smaller Barrhead, I can at times question the making out this has never been tried before stuff - but I am supportive and what I do hope is this is the owner group that gets it right long term and all the negative folk are talking in 10yrs time about how great the owners have done for the pro teams. Fingers crossed and good luck to them on this project.

actually - been thinking about those drawings and what the building looks like when you drive past it - that U shaped spectator area is perhaps more likely the small arena and what we dont see is the plans for the purpose built arena yet. Who knows - well the franchise owner does and in time the rest of us will learn.

The thing people forget about Gretna is that the guy who bought them and was the benefactor was in a medically induced coma when his family fought for Power of Attorney to stop funding the club so they could inherit the money when he died. It was never the Ponzi scheme it's remembered as, even though the consequences for the club were awful. On Caledonia - can't help but feel excited about this, even as a Giants fan. As others have said, the Gladcast goes into loads of detail on it and is a very good listen. He turns over every single negative in this thread and explains how and why he reached the decision to move and rebrand the team, and it makes complete sense. Land cost alone would probably double the cost of the build in Glasgow - people forget it's the UK's third biggest city by population and size of its economy (again, hurts as an adopted Manc ). Steve Timoney is a very impressive guy and has clearly been an immensely successful businessman. Calling him 'Walter Mitty' seems miles wide of the mark. Hope he doesn't 'do a Brooks Mileson' and get sick causing a weird legal scrap over the arena in EK...

Gretna were in financial trouble when they first started playing up here.
Mileson came in the middle of the 2nd season, that's when Gretna's fortunes changed, for a wee while.
The 3rd season saw them finally lift the 3rd Division title, Kenny Deuchar was the main man.
The 2nd Division wasn't quite an easy ride but Gretna won the League, also made the Scottish Cup Final, losing to Hearts on penalties, however, Gretna qualified for Europe.
The season after saw Gretna win their 3rd league title in a row, beating Ross County 3-2. Europe was a disappointment, a 5-1 defeat at Fir Park followed up by a 2-2 in Derry saw Gretna out, would have faced PSG.
Then of course you had the final season.
It got off to a weird start, Rowan Alexander had been relieved of his duties as manager, however he attempted to take his place as manager but he left 5 minutes later, Gretna lost 4-0 against Falkirk. Gretna eventually finished bottom, winning their last game vs Hearts. They went bust not long after, I found out when I was in Madrid with my local college.
It was a wild ride but I enjoyed it.
