Well with the final 2 GB Fiba World Cup matches due to take place this weekend I thought I would start the thread now for it.
Friday 24th Febuary 2023-GB vs Belgium at home and in Newcastle at 19:30pm. π¬π§ v π§πͺ π (Previous result Belgium bt GB 72-57)
Monday 27th Febuary 2023 GB@Serbia away at 19:00pm. π¬π§@π·πΈ π (Previous result Serbia bt GB 74-68 at home)
Sadly GB are already out of the running to qualify for the next Fiba World Cup later this year.
But hopefully we will still get some good games and the players are able to atleast once again display the pride of being selected to play for your country.

Be interesting to see the final 12, must be time see how in form players can step up to perform at international level. After seeing Kimble destroy Phoenix at the weekend surely room should be found for him and similar new talent.

I had a little look at the Fiba World Cup website and wondered if they offer any wildcards like they have done with some other countries. I know GB probably isn't high on the list and not as deserving of a wildcard spot compared to other countries. But it would be quite a suprise if the organisers did consider Team GB.

Young looking squad named with only Kyle Johnson, Mockford and Wheatle with significant experience. Seems to be too many naturalised players named? Or do I not understand the rules properly as who counts and who doesn't.

Sharma is the naturalised (passport after 16) player.
It was between him and mckenzie but we clearly have more of a need at the C spot without Olaseni

I think (?) you can have as many dual nationals as you like as long as only one of them didnβt obtain their first British passport after the age of 18. But others may correct me.

Canβt find streams for them tv/you tube? its on the courtside app - and apparently you will just need to have an account and not need a subscription for the GB games

It was between him and mckenzie but we clearly have more of a need at the C spot without Olaseni I though Horchler may have been a naturalised player, but obviously he was smart and got his British passport early. Great for GB this being the case.

If you want to watch other games in the window, the subscriptions are not bad - however GB Basketball did tweat that the GB games will not need a subscription, you will only need to have an account:

What are the odds that Johnson and Mockford were selected to be the veteran players for these games because it saved GB a few quid on accommodation?

Mockford will have been selected because he has never let GB down. (and without whelan we aren't exactly chock full of shooters) Johnson because he's the highest scoring British qualified player in the BBL. (and without nelson, whelan, soko etc we really cant turn someone who can put the ball in the hoop. Both are entirely defensible selections.
They may be rotating naturalised players, maybe Mackenzie will play Monday. Alternatively they may just have decided where their need is greatest. never a bad thing for a player to be invited to camp though.

He's been awful for GB other that one decent game. Eurobasket he was atrocious. His club form is even worse. I have no qualms with KJ.

To be honest I didn't think Mockford was playing due to him picking up an injury against Cheshire a few weeks ago. And even if he was fit I would say judging by his season at the Eagles I wouldn't have selected him anyway as I don't think it's been earnt this time. 3 years ago today I went to the Eagles new arena for the first time and watch GB vs Germany which was incredible and a great win for the team. I'll be hoping for another victory tonight against the Belgians.

Despite the tweet can't get to see the game. I have a free account with Courtside but not the Max that they want you to have and that costs money?
