I just saw Hoopsfix retweet this, would be pretty crazy to jump from the FIBA Europe cup up to this, but I think the prize money is much better and obviously the list of teams is far superior as well, would be incredibly difficult to be competitive

No Leicester Riders unless their looking at the Champions league instead. Whatever you say about London though I think it's good their still attempting Europe.
I think Vince said it was a 5 year plan Europe and its good to keep having a BBL team on the European stage.
Although as an Eagles fan and as fans from other franchises if London can manage to figure out how to balance Europe and the BBL then we might be in trouble.
Plus if they giving it a second go I'd be curious to see if they have learnt from last season and also up their game in other business areas like marketing.

Looks like Lions still have a bottomless money pit, Cause there going to need some big players to compete in that competition.

What the hell? How can London Lions be in EuroCup? Who saw that coming? They will need to sign some better players. They should be trying to bring in Olaseni, Soko and Phillips or is it going to be a team of Americans?

18 games minimum for the eurocup, going to need a serious roster. They actually did really well in Europe so not completely mad but certainly not expected!

I wonder how many tickets they need to sell to break even for all the extra nights at the copper box, I also wonder if we will see a few away fans turning up for some of these games, because there are a few well supported teams in there as well as a few from countries that will have a pretty sizeable population living in London

One of the great games in Brighton was when the Bears played Rytas and 700 raucas Lithuanians turned up, it was an incredible atmosphere, I can't imagine what would happen if it was in London!

Elizabeth Line, Copper Box Arena and EuroCup is an attractive prospect. This should be popular.

Really hope so, You can get away with being a bit tinpot when you are playing in the Europe cup, because most teams are equally as tinpot, but it will be pretty embarrassing if there is only 200 odd people most games when playing some of these teams

This news is more than anything I ever expected and I wouldn't believe it if it wasn't on the Euroleague website. Hopefully British broadcasters will now take a serious interest in EuroCup and Euroleague.

Interesting to see how they go about constructing the roster. Last year they had 2 guys outside the bbl roster. To be competitive surely they'll need 3 or 4 guys on top of what they put out in the bbl. And they'd have to be the 3 or 4 best players on the team. Plus a couple of properly high level brits.

How many Brits are good enough to compete at that level? Olaseni, Soko, Phillip, Nelson. Anyone else?

Funnily enough I have been to a couple of the Lions games as I’m originally from Oxford and I just found it a bit too much of a ball ache getting there and back, and then as soon as I’ve moved away they’ve opened the bloody Elizabeth line which would probably have cut my journey time in half, and where I live now would probably take even longer than it used to, I will still definitely get to at least a couple of games this year because I think they do need supporting because even though they get a lot wrong I think any British team trying to play in Europe deserves the support of all British basketball fans

If you're talking top 8 players at that level then I'd probably only add Hesson to that list, however they need the talent levels of MBA, Dan Clark etc to be their 11, 12 men on the euro roster getting 2-5 minutes

Genuinely ignorant question - how do you qualify for admission to EuroCup? Is it just a case of having the cash & putting up some sort of bond? Or are there requirements for home court capacity etc? Or do you have to have won something? I genuinely don’t know so happy to be referred to any relevant links etc.

This tweet suggests London will be one of the weaker teams replacing stronger teams who are must now be playing elsewhere in Europe?

London Lions admission will be partly due to the banning of Russian teams and the knock on effect accross the all 4 european competitions. There were 4 teams that would usually be in the Euroleague and Eurocup... well actually 5 but Khimki folded. Andorra were relegated from the ACB and were not replaced with another spanish side as a lot of the are becoming more interested in the Basketball Champions League. Eurocup had quite a few spots vacant and generally dont care how well you do in the domestic league, and yes there choices are almost always economic. Prometey from Ukraine (a polictical choice no doubt) and Cluj Napoca from Romania (who had a fantastic season in the BCL last year) are other surprise inclusions and to be honest fair play to Eurocup for getting some new clubs involved rather the the same old tired faces.
The likely result of this is that either London Lions are going to assemble a regular BBL like squad and struggle big time in Eurocup, or they compete in Eurocup and wipe the floor with the BBL. This could be very good for the BBL though, if London Lions hold there own but somehow someone else gives them a beating domestically then the BBLs reputation will grow immensely.

I would say the decisions are all related to politics to an extent. Euroleague needs to replace Russia. London will at least partly do this if Britons, British media and broadcasters start taking a greater interest in London Lions and in the Euroleague competitions in general. If our politicians recognise the international politics behind this they could give this some publicity and support that could make a big difference.

I think it's good for the BBL
Lions will continue to have some star names playing for them. (Maybe better than ever before)
Gives every other team a challenge to step up to their level to compete with them
If Riders arent in Europe I still expect us to compete well with Lions for the League and wouldn't be scared of the challenge
If we are in Europe then I think Lions budget will better cope with the distractions Europe brings than ours
I wouldn't be upset if we aren't in Europe

I'm fairly certain Leicester will enter Europe also but it would be on a different scale.
Leicester will sign 12 players to play, London will probably edge closer to 18. Perhaps with BA Lions adding 3/4 to the bbl squad?
